Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If Levy doesn't back him, then Ange will walk. At the same time, I do think he will also be reasonable given the club's resources. There's a fine line there, of course, but the moment he feels Levy is not stepping up to the level that the club actually can afford to, he'll walk. He doesn't strike me like someone who cares about the paycheck, if his principles and philosophy is compromised and he is not getting the support he needs.

Club's resources are top 10 in the world.

There is no doubt that Levy isn't planning to invest like the others in the Top 10.

Ange will walk if he's not backed and that's great but hopefully, he's not expecting a reasonable investment compared to the club's resources.

For one yea year rolling contract ? Does t add up. Remeber we would t pay up for slot.
With Slot it also had to do with him preferring to stay at Feyenoord. And the fact that for the risk we would be taking, the compensation was just too high. Especially when we had another candidate in Ange in the pipeline, who by all accounts won the board over.

Hardly any manager will walk from a high paying job, backed or not.

98% with you there - apart from the very last bit - we won't be fighting it out with that bunch of pond life, we'll be fighting to stay ahead of City - mark my words. Big Ange is here.

:ange-arms:

Bit early to be on the vino??

I’m looking forward to the pre season where will we finish poll.

Could have the biggest spread of league positions ever.

1st to 20th going by the current mood on here.

What I expect will happen is that the club will set a transfer budget each year and expect the manager to work within that. The fine line I mentioned is whether the manager feels the budget is reasonable given the clubs resources and other commitments.

If I were the chairman, I would sit down with the manager at the start of each year and go over the financials with him to explain why the transfer and wage budget is set to what it is. That ensures alignment and buy in. I know it sounds very simplistic, but it also very transparent. Beyond that, Levy will just have to take a step back and let the football people run football matters. Here's hoping that is the case.

We’re 9th for revenue globally.

Three teams ahead of us - Bayern, Barcelona and Chelsea.
Three teams below us - Woolwich, Juventus, Atletico.

Chelsea have been an exception but I think we will spend similar sums to the other 5 clubs. Last season we spent more than Bayern, Barcelona, Juventus,

The issue hasn’t been in our spending, it’s been what we’ve spent money on. Exacerbated by poor coaches who haven’t properly used the talent we have.

Joy? What is there to be joyous about? That we've finally appointed a manager? Fuck me, that's the bare minimum!

I'm hopeful Ange will deliver the goods but based on what everyone is saying, it may take a year or two so based on that I'm not sure there is any point in watching us next season. I thought the days of mid-table were behind us but seems they're back....wit a vengeance

Until your pal and his cronies fuck off, this club will always be on the outside looking in.
Feel free to take the year off then. You won’t be missed.

I am rather excited about this guy. Everywhere he has gone, he has got rid of half the team, promoted youth, bought undiscovered gems and played super aggressive and attacking football. I remember when Southampton fans were coming on here saying what a good manager Poch was, Celtic fans are saying the same.

I am expecting the first 9 months to be rough. He has to change years of tactical neglect with the players he decides to keep and will need time to bring his own player in.

I just hope the the board sticks with him when a portion of the fans start moaning. We need to be united and have patience.

COYS

He was not on my radar as a potential replacement for Conte but, as with every manager we've had, he will have my full backing to make a success of it.

On the positive side, his teams seem to play positive, attacking, attractive football. He also seems to have had an excellent relationship with the players at Celtic.

On the negative side, winning big in Scotland is no guarantee that he will succeed in the Premier League.

I hope he gets the backing he will need, and I wish him, and us, every success.

No matter how many times this is said people will just ignore it.

Yup.

Will Levy take a step back?

Will he still expect Top 4 despite not matching the other clubs also targeting Top 4?

Will the fans expectations match that?

That's not to say Postecoglou can't over achieve the budget and structure. Tbh I think he will,

I suggest you listen to this interview, especially towards the end (1:35 mark). This was after one of his first games managing Celtic.

Journo: where do you think the blame lies [for the bad result]?
Ange: the blame? I don't blame people; I take responsibility. The responsibility is mine.

Here's a guy whom it took 25 years to get to manage in Europe giving an interview at a time when he was still considered a joke appointment and there was still a lot of skepticism about him. Yet he is so confident in himself and his abilities that he has no problem taking the blame. Contrast that to Jose and Conte, who would blame everyone else. Even after having won so many titles, they still didn't have the guts to say "my bad."

So yeah, Conte is a no-nonsense manager. But you know who the players will follow: the one that shoulders responsibility. The one that dresses them down in private and takes responsibility in public. The one that doesn't blame everyone else when things go south.

Conte and Jose may have won more in more prestigious leagues. But when it comes to character they can't hold a candle to Ange.

You really think that kind of interview would be acceptable vs Southampton? Nobody cares about Celtic the guy will get hammered if he's protecting a performance like that we had against Southampton. As for your other comment Conte was so committed to the club he tried to come back early from gallbladder surgery, he experienced the death of THREE close friends during the season, he kept going. Mourihno during the season experienced his dog dying on christmas day during a live interview ( I understand that you and others might not think this is something worthy of note, perhaps even funny but to people who love their pets it's a big deal). His close friend Luis Enrique also lost his daughter 9 year old daughter to cancer and he was really sad about.

Here Mourinho praise Aurier and talks briefly about his sisters death.

Mourinho then noted the similarities between Aurier's situation and the painful family tragedy he suffered when his sister, Teresa, died in 1997 at the age of 37, a subject he does not talk about.

"I remember when my sister passed away and a couple of days later I had a match and wanted to be there," he recalled of his time as Barcelona coach.

"I knew that is what she wanted me to do and I think with Serge it is probably a similar feeling.

"I think now it's time for him to turn the page and go to his mum and support his family."

So I find your comment about them not being able to hold a candle to Ange when it comes to character really quite disgusting and wrong. Even if you hate these guys or think they are shit or whatever they certainly show they have commitment and character, fans like yourself forget that so easily,

LEAGUE CUP

The domestic treble is on

(For Man City).
Ange's Spurs are the new Leicester under Ranieri. On that basis, I'm putting a purple granny...or actually fuck it...even a big 100 on us winning either the league or FA Cup next season! Might even put another 100 down on us winning both cup comps...yeehaa!

Fuck it, life is short and it feels good going bonkers every now and then.

I don't know how the big fella gonna do at Spurs, heck maybe he'll be the biggest flop ever and be gone quicker than Nuno...but right now it feels all new and exciting...and man when was the last time our club made us feel this way?!?!

And frankly that’s the biggest thing we need at the moment.

Whether people like it or not we’re not spending loads of money, and most of what we can spend will probably come from sales. There has been some really bad purchases and it can’t be much more clear from Levy that there aren’t bags of money just sitting there to be spent.

If Ange can get this group to over perform, we get in a DoF who is actually good at their job, we develop better analytics in our buying, and move out the trash we can be in a much better space in 1-2 years. We just need Ange to get the most out of what we have to give us time to turn over the team.

Brutal truth is that 6-7th and good football will be what over-achievement looks like compared to what Levy wants to spend this summer.

I can't help but think that some (not all of course) of the more rabid Levy/ENIC Outers who have almost been wallowing in a sort of self-hate in recent times find themselves outside the zeitgeist at the minute.

If we're honest, who ever we appointed would have had a proportion of naysayers - Poch and the idea that second spells never work out well, Luis Enrique hasn't managed a club team for ages and even then it was Messi making him look good, Nagelsmann was a loose cannon, a bit of a weirdo and would have left us sharpish as soon as a bigger outfit lifted its skirt, Potter was another Chav reject, Brendan Rodgers was... well... Brendan Rodgers.

I'm not looking to excuse or deflect from our Chairman's appalling stewardship for a single second. It's just that the story of the day is a new and seemingly hugely likeable face in charge of the team who is known for his attacking philosophy. For me that's enough to press pause on angry fist-shaking, however temporarily, and dare to feel a little bit good about your team for a bit.

Fast forward to the start of August, Harry's about to leave and no one of note has been signed and the howling and gnashing of teeth will be fully justified, but as Doris sang, the future's not ours to see.

:ange-pray:
Big Bill wins. Again.

Looking forward to hearing what our new man says and what if anything he commits to.

I won't go so far as saying cautious optimism but I am hoping that on balance, Postecoglou is able to bring more highs than lows, set against the wider context.

Conte was not committed to the club. Yes he came back from Gall Bladder Surgery early but by that point he was readying the self destruct button. The man wanted out and there was probably a myriad of reasons why.

Jose Mourinho I do not know what happened there he campaigned for the job and by the end was a bit disillusioned with it. By the looks at what happened at Roma this could very well have been because Jose's connection to the team was Joao Sacremento who was extremely unpopular.
