How can they get him for that? Maddison quoted at £50 milllion. And why are we not in for MacAlister ??
What difference would it make? Would you join a side who's competed for league titles and made European finals under one of the decade's top coaches.. or chance your arm to join a squad with little identity or competitive spirit under a coach in his first high level job.

He does and has played different formations at other clubs. The thing that he doesn't compromise on is his footballing philosophy, but he isn't wedded to one formation.

If he doesn't have the players to play the way he did at Celtic, I am confident that he will find another way to set us up.

I think he'll need to..... In think he'll also need to evolve his philosophy to adapt to the fact he won't have the best squad in the league......

Personally I do not have a clue. Every single tactical analysis video is wedded to looking at Celtic last season. I do not know how he set up at FC Marinos, Brisbane Roar, Melbourne Victory or Australia. I have struggled to find analysis videos before he managed Celtic.
It sounds like he wants players that fit his system rather than having a system that fits with the players.
I don't see Levy funding a total overhaul unless we're going to be purchasing cheap?

I don't think he will, I saw an interview he did last week where he said he wouldn't and that he's always heard from critics that he needs to change every time he took a step up but has succeeded everywhere he's been sticking to his beliefs.

I'm not expecting a philosophy change, but at the same time he isn't super stubborn like a Bielsa either.

So if he can't play the 4-3-3 he did at Celtic, I wouldn't be surprised if he had us play in a double pivot as opposed to the lone 6 single pivot he had at Celtic given the players we have.

Most modern football is based on identity. Pep, Arteta, Klopp etc. if the club isn’t willing to pick a style and back it then we will be a mediocre mid table club going forward as everyone from Brighton to Burnley will do that and eventually surpass us.

Managers who just change based on whatever they have like Redknapp are mostly limited in their glass ceiling these days.

It doesn't have to be one or the other. You can gradually transition into your preferred system while still setting the team up in a way that suits the players.

So we'll be getting cheap players from weaker teams and weaker leagues then, I don't see Levy purchasing a whole new squad of £30 million upwards players.

Lazio will need ‘at least €30m’ to sign Bryan Gil from Tottenham this summer, with Spurs refusing to ‘start negotiations’ for anything beneath that price.

That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who say it will prove hard for the Italian side to ‘obtain discounts’ from Tottenham this summer.

Gil has spent the second half of this season on loan at former club Sevilla, establishing himself in the first team as they went on to win the Europa League.

He’s set to return to Tottenham once that loan deal officially ends as it does not include a purchase clause but whether he has a long-term future at the club remains to be seen.

He’s barely featured for the club since his arrival from Sevilla July 2021 and has regularly spoken of a need to depart and get regular playing time elsewhere.

A departure seems likely this summer and Lazio have been identified as a possible destination, with it claimed that manager Maurizio Sarri believes he can turn the Spaniard into a star.

Corriere now state that any deal would be ‘complicated’, at least from an economic point of view, as Tottenham are demanding ‘at least €30m’ for the player if he departs.
They had Gil tied down to a contract until 2026 which means that there is no need for them to sell on the cheap and there is little to no opportunity for Lazio to ‘obtain discounts’.

Thus, a move to the Italian side looks unlikely at this moment in time, although things can always change in the whirlpool that is the transfer window.

Absolutely incredible player on the ball but at times his pressing has been questionable. Can he play as a Hybrid 8 which everyone and their dog has been telling me is how Ange likes to set up his teams.

Then their is the fact we have been linked with him for well over a month when by all reports we were in the middle of the recruitment process for manager. This seems like the board once again interfering in player recruitment and that is what scare me.

Finally he will cost us £50m when we need 1 or 2 Centre Backs and a Goal Keeper.
The answer to the highlighted bit is no.

I get the appeal of Maddison, he’s an excellent player and can really make stuff happen on the ball. I’m a big fan.

But if, as has been suggested, Ange prefers 433 with 2 8’s who contribute on both sides of the pitch, this is a horrid fit.

Even if he does amend his setup to a 4231, is no one else worried by how easy to bypass we’ll be with Maddison, Kane and Son in our front 4? It’ll place huge pressure on our CM and back 4.

Levy hired Ange to not be a checkbook manager, work with younger players and develop them.

To re-buiuld the squad on the cheap.

If he just came out and said it as it is
. "We believe Ange can develop the squad spending as little money as possible so we can strengthen our position as the most profitable football club in the world"
instead of dressing it up and pulling the wool over our eyes, I'd have a bit more respect for the cunt

They smashed us out the park last summer too, when we was the ones with Champions League Fucking Football!
The under investment in our football team over the years is bordering on criminal negligence
We simply don't have a team that belongs in that Stadium, I think it's one of the first things I recall Conte saying, that the facilities and the stadium are world class, now we need a team to match it.

That's not an exact quote but he said something like that.

We're just as bad now as we were when he first turned up.

Hopefully Ange can do a Poch and carry our sorry ass owners for the next 4 or 5 years before running out of gas .
I really do like the sound of him and his ideas about the game . I have no idea if he can step up but I sure as hell am crossing my fingers and will support him. He has a Herculean task ahead of him , good luck Ange

So you hire a manager who has success in a very specific system and the way he plays? How does that make any sense for a team lacking identity already ?

I have limited knowledge of the bloke, but perhaps it doesn't.

I dunno... I didn't hire him.

Food for thought though: Pep is also used to having the best squad in the league and is wedded to a philosophy..... Would you not hire him if you could?
