I'm clinging on to the idea of him turning it round for us, mainly because his parents live just down the road (or at least used to, don't know if we're still near-neighbours) and I still have the fantasy that I'm going to bump into Reg, we go for a coffee and become best mates.
Sess has been very unimpressive, Perisic wants to leave, so maybe he's in with a chance of getting his spot back.

Well that's the problem, isn't it? Scouting has been rubbish for a while. Seems to have improved, maybe, over the last couple of windows but that's yet to be established as a trend.
It is indeed.

We can sit here and take the negative viewpoint that scouting has been shit the last few years so it'll remain the same, or...

We can look at the profile of players we've been buying since Paratici arrived, and those we are currently looking at, and conclude that there appears to be a fairly significant change in our recruitment process, like we're going back to the type of recruitment that built us up to top 4. The difference, as I see it, is that we're in a position to keep these players when they hit their peak, rather than having to sell them when their heads are turned. At least we should be if the process succeeds.

It's all speculation ATM really, as we're only seeing this change in its early stages. It could go pear shaped, but I'm willing to believe that we're now starting to get our shit straight.

Pace is obviously important, but reading of the game much more so including in a high line.

Best high line we’ve ever had was with a back 3 off Dier, Tony and Jan, with Lloris the sweeper keeper. Sanchez murders all three of them fit pace but is so much easier to get in behind.

I remember alot of people online relatively excited to be beating United to the signing Reguilon and were rather annoyed that we included a buy back clause into the deal.

Definitely shame it hasn't worked out. There were some real promising signs in his early days here both offensively and defensively. I remember him being excellent when keeping a cleansheet against City.

But for whatever reason, like many, it hasn't worked out. Perhaps that's because of the negative environment we had under Mourinho. Maybe he had been playing with a niggly injury which he played through, like for whatever reason a fair few of our players are allowed to do, who knows.

Nice bloke, good character and I imagine Ange will want to look at him, especially after reports he wants to look and Tanguy and Gio. But I can't see him sticking around.
I wouldn't be surprised if Postecoglou takes a liking to Reguilon.

He's better than Sess IMO and I think to play a high energy counter press game Reguilon fits better. The only problem is that he is coming back off a bad injury so whether he has that in him still we don't know.

He's leaving on a free next summer.

I hate to basically be Kosher Kid Kosher Kid with the 'it's brendan rodgers' thing, but this is what is happening. Nobody is paying the ridiculous fees Levy will demand for a player with one year left, and Kane isn't committing his final years to Spurs and risking retiring with no silverware.

He's giving us one final year, enjoy it.
What's wrong with being me?

Mick Cooper loves me.

60m ain't anywhere close to happening.
Aye, £15-20M on top of that for the two IMO, which isn't beyond our reach if we want the two.

If they're precisely what we want then it may come down to using the Winter window budget this Summer, to get what we need, rather than missing out and potentially having a lesser choice further down the line.

I've said all along that this window is extremely important. £200M was roughly what I felt needed to be spent to fix our issues, and I don't see that has changed with the sort of prices we're seeing for identified players. Say Maddison is £35M, Tapsoba £50M, VDV £30M. There's £115M right off the bat. Add Elmo and a few other astute signings and we're not far off.

It's not going to suddenly make us title challengers, but if the scouting is such that we end up with more hits than misses, it could set us up to the point where we are tweaking/refreshing the squad rather than overhauling it again.

We need to off load players, surely we should be exploring options of offers with players.

If we bid 35 + Winks and Tanganga for Maddison and Barnes. That's a fair deal. 2 HG players each and the quality in players if offset with a price. Leicester are also a club that might be able to ressurect a career in those 2.

Additionally, if we go for van de Ven we could give them a CB or even Sess who has played recently in Germany for Hoffenheim and actually think the Bundesliga suits him better.

3rd option, if we are interested in Tosin why not just straight swap Sess. He goes back to Fulham, a club he knows well and they are still in the PL. If they value Tosin at £15 million I think that's a fair price for Sess. We would make a £15 million loss but that's reflective of his performances and injury history.

I think we need to be smarter with these deals. We aren't ever going to pay the asking price, and negotiating down a few million won't make much impact.

There's still a scenario IMO where you could get Tapsoba, van de Ven, Tosin and Maddison without spending 200 million. The massive plus is offloading players.

Would Xabi Alonso as a Spanish speaking manager want Sanchez in reverse? I could see Sanchez being happy to move there. Same with Dier. £40 million + Sanchez/Dier for Tapsoba is a fair deal.

Then you front up money for Scott and say Bristol can have him back and we knock 5 million off their price for that.

Would he though?

Dunk is decent but nit convinced he'd have played any better in our dysfunctional team last season.

I def don't want to sign Dunk because he played well for Brighton.

Same way I wouldn't pay big money for Mitoma either.
Yes he would. My point is some players are late bloomers and we shouldn’t be put off by that, especially centre backs who IMO often peak later

There’s a reason swap deals don’t happen in Eng. I dunno what that reason is though 😂 I assume the swapper has to be willing to take a step down which limits these deals? Tangana may be open to Leicester but I doubt the others would, poss Sess
