Maybe Lenglet is a low risk squad player, perhaps it's more of a shrewd purchase with Barca taking a massive hit and us getting an assets that we can flip for profit. We still have to make those sort of signings, and we do need depth.

If Barca let him go cheap to shift the wages (<£8m), perhaps we can give him a small signing on bonus so his salary drops, this then makes flipping in a couple of seasons much easier if he's on something like £120k per week.

At the end of the day, I'm sure Ange was given the choice, and has watched tapes of his career to date so it will not be an unknown signing. Perhaps he has seen something of his footage from Sevilla and feels there is a player in there he can coach and after speaking to him he is keen.

If he finds his form it's not inconcievable that his value could go from £8m > £20m pretty damn quickly.

Seems like we have a number of CB options (spinning the plates innit) and Lenglet is just one of those.

Everyone stop wetting your pants!

it's alarming that we are even considering signing him tbh. Paradodgy might be the cunt pushing this to ensure some sort of cut in the deal.

I think he's better than Dier and Sanchez to be honest (but so are half of this forum tbh so that's not really a compliment).

Would definitely far prefer we go for two superior options, and then if they decide they need a third / squad player, then ok...I guess.

But yeah, much better players out there we should hopefully be going for!

Tapsoba and VdV are the right kind of names/profiles it’s good to see.

Obviously means nothing if we don’t follow through but the targets look good. We’ve been impressively quick getting Vicario and Maddison over the line.

I like Tosin too I really do, if he’s gettable at a good price.

Levy: Do you want Lenglet or nothing?
Ange: Ok I'll take Lenglet.

Well, if Ange wants him and has full decision-making rights, then fair play.

But everything else you say make absolutely 0 sense financially and logically.
1) If we pay signing bonus, it is still a cost. Financially there is 0 difference if we pay him 80 thEUR per week+6,2 mEUR signing bonus or if we pay him 120 thEUR per week across 3 year contract. Total cost for us is still 18,7 mEUR.
2) He is 28 now. Please, do explain how will value of a player INCREASE from age 28 to 31 if he is "depth" player. I'd like to hear the reasoning.
3) And even at this scenario you are focusing on positive. But what if he turns out to be poor? Then we are stuck for 3 years with poor foreign player that no team would take off our hands.

So... no, financially it makes 0 fucking sense.
And while his ability on the ball is positive, his pace and reaction speed are absolute joke. His one-on-one defending is just fundamentally poor.

Tbh I hope we mess Barcelona around a bit and drag out negotiations for lenglet. They mocked us when we signed royal a few years ago.
ball is in our court on this one. they want him gone, he knows us and is probably keen to remain in London. We can negotiate hard and leave this one on the back burner. I would prefer others but can see a good financial upside in this signing, and that is still a crucial part of the business.

So apparent new additions coming into the squad:

1. Udogie
2. Maddison
3. Vicario

Quite exciting to see the impact of these player.

Will we invite the following back as they are young, fit and dynamic:

A. Gil
B. Spence

In just those above that's quite a shake-up. I felt Gil left everything on the pitch when he played, and for a small player he really looked to get stuck in and wasn't afraid of getting hurt.

We should also have Biss back to full fitness over pre season.

At his best his value only reaches 20m?? Maybe Everton would be interested.
