We are not in Europe , no director of football could say not exactly in good form a lot of question marks re next season…….yet we sign a 26 year for 40million one of the best players in his position beating a team who‘s qualified for the champions league and definitely heading in the right direction….Mm

There's plenty to be optimistic about. But for me, thinking we can finish as high as second suddenly is just setting ourselves up for dissapointment. Whether you think they are over-rated or not, how many players as of right now do we have that would realistically get into Woolwich's team outside of Kane? Maybe Bentancur? Son at his best, but he's 31 in a few days and has peaked already whereas Saka and Martinelli are years away from theirs.
If we sign a few good defenders then we'll look strong on paper, but then the team still has to be given time to gel. That takes time. We don't even know yet what we're getting with Ange. Doing well for Celtic in the SPFL is neither here or there. He's completely unproven at any sort of high level.

I did ask on the transfer thread how we might use Maddison and what his best position is. He is capable of being lethal in the final third. More lethal than Richi or Kulu perhaps ?
