So many people moan about the academy but if Winks goes for £8m then in the last 11 years we have received £110m in fees and loans for the yoot.
And there is a very good crop of players at the moment which will substantially add to that over the coming years or save us big money in transfers.
True but it’s the ones we have never given enough chances in the 1st team that have been the fault….eg Marcus Edwards.

yup and that's fair. He surely wants the Prem record as it's more certain than a medal elsewhere. With Ange football we are likely to see more goals which must appeal.

historically do players get more reference/credit for:

A: a single league winners medal
B: all time top scorer

Give him a signing on bonus, 3 years (+ 1) and a hike in salary and we're all good.
What about a coaching job after his playing days?

He's probably our most equipped full back at the club to play in Ange's system
I’ve read this a lot and I strongly strongly disagree.

He’s ok defensively, no quibble there. But the prospect of a player so limited technically as Royal playing as an inverted full back should frighten every Tottenham fan.

Do we really want him on the ball in the centre of the pitch? Give me a technician like Porro there all day, even if he isn’t perfect.

I don’t think we can assume any sort of system is going to make up for the lack of technical excellent that Royal has. This is a still a professional footballer who struggles to get the ball off the ground when crossing it.

I think that's a bit harsh.

He's probably just as limited as Porro but in different ways. Emerson is fantastic defensively, limited offensively. Porro is fantastic offensively, limited defensively.

Got a strong feeling Emerson is going to be relatively useful this season.
Yeah see my quote to ShadyDan, I think we’re seeing different players.

I don’t see any top level full backs in the mould of Emerson in world football, I see plenty in the Porro mould.

He’s technically poor, and with Ange’s tendency to play inverted full-backs that feels like a disaster to me.

And I do believe that line is about Jan Vertonghen, not Harry Kane?!

Let's make a friendly bet then. If it transpires that the club had a one year option remaining in his contract, I pay £20 to a charity of your choice. If not, you do the same?

Maybe we won't find out the answer to that bet, but if we do...up for it?

He changed my mind, for a long time he looked like a competition winner but by the end I was happier seeing him in the team than most others. Think he will continue to improve
He did improve, no argument there.

I just don’t think there’s any pathway to being a top side with such a limited footballer in the team these days, especially in an era where full-backs have become so important to the way teams attack (either inverted or as bombing down the channel).

He wouldn’t be anywhere near my first XI.

Emersons best games for us last season were when he came central in the middle of the pitch.

If anything, he's best suited to being an inverted full back more than probably anyone in our squad.

Porro however, seems a disastrous fit. I've made my feelings clear of not wanting to go ahead with Porro permanently but looks like it's happening
