I have no confidence in Dier’s ability to play in a CB pair (rather than back 3). And I also don’t believe Dier can play defense without being able to see the ball in front of him—he does not have good defensive instincts, and I believe he was a key reason for the way we persistently sat so deep defensively. None of this will work with Ange’s system. He’s a square peg for a round hole.

He was superb as the DM dropping to CB, he’s been a sensational servant for the £4m odd we paid.
If he wants to see if he’s recovered enough to challenge for a place this season, we literally owe him that legally. Personally like it, and, think once pre-season shapes up, we should have 2 new CBS clearly ahead of him.
If he then chooses to stay, again fair play, he’s earnt it. Though it will almost certainly be the clubs failing, by him being too close, if he ends staying.
This is a weird time, people are ready to hate soo readily.
He has never been superb at anything, he looked half decent for a season or 2 because he was surrounded by Toby, Jan, Mousa Walker all in their prime.
He has always been a mediocre player.

He was to Poch, what Fletcher was to Ferguson. RB first season, filling a big hole.
My hope is we strengthen so much it’s obvious he won’t play, and, possibly want to go. But this desperate will for the club to push stinks, it would likely piss Kane, Son et al off as their mate/colleague gets pushed out after years of good service.
These dynamics are bigger than the individual.
I have no problem with him being fifth choice, but I genuinely shudder at the thought of Romero and [insert cheapest CB option] being injured and seeing Dier and Lenglet back out there for a months' worth of games.
That's a season ending scenario and can not be allowed to happen. When you get kept out of an international squad by Connor Cody your done at the top table.
Cody is great at dishing out the oranges and organising the post-match karaoke, tbf.
