What position does Ashley Phillips play?

Phillips plays as a centre-back.

How good is Ashley Phillips?

Phillips' physical attributes make him a perfect candidate to make it as a Premier League centre-back.

He is 6ft 4in so can handle himself in the air, but also has a tremendous turn of pace which allows him to keep up with quick attackers.

His blend of pace, power and height has earned him comparisons with Virgil van Dijk.

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray outlined his talents to Lancs Live:

"He's 6ft 4', he's fast, mobile and can pass it really well. He can use both feet, he's composed.

"Ash is just a phenomenal young boy; if you were to create a defender in the mould of how you would want one, this kid has got every attribute.

"But he is still just a young boy. He needs time, which is why he's training with the first-team so that he gets confident and used to the level of intensity.

"He's an exciting prospect, is all I'd say. But it's in a position where there is a lot of responsibility.

It's not as easy to put a really talented young defender in as opposed to a talented young striker where it doesn't matter if he loses the ball every now and then.

"As a defender, you're judged on keeping the ball out of the net and winning your individual duels.

"He is just a boy but he's got some amazing attributes. We've got high hopes that he can progress quickly."

What clubs are interested in Ashley Phillips?

Manchester United and Chelsea are leading the race for his signature currently, but the Sun reports that it would take a "fortune" to sign the player anytime soon as he is under contract with Blackburn despite being just 16.

Everton and Tottenham are also keeping tabs on Phillips.

How old is Ashley Phillips?

Phillips was born on 16 June 2005. He is 16.

What is Ashley Phillips’ height?

Phillips is 6 ft 4in.

When does Ashley Phillips’ contract expire?

Phillips has a contract with Blackburn until 2023.
Pointless signing.
Just Levy hoping to snare the next big thing on the cheap again, the footballing equivalent of doing a scratch card.

Does nothing to help us in the here and now.

I'd hope so, only 12 months on his contract as well.

I make it Rodon, Sanchez, Tanganga, Requilon, Perisic, Hojbjerg, Lo Celso, Ndombele and maybe Gil to move on. Would have been Sess as well but guess his injury scuppers that. Looks like we're stuck with Dier for the season. Its a shed load to do.
I'd bet my arse the bulk of them are still under contract with THFC when the window shuts.
Just to point out, Perisic got assists/key passes for both our goals yesterday. He still has a lot to offer, just maybe not as a LB for 90 minutes.

This feels like one of the biggest anomalies in ENIC history though, doesn't it?
I mean, he isn't a Spurs fan, he had other suiters, he should have had an English tax. I still can't figure out why he cost as "little" as he did and chose Spurs.

Haha

Surely even Levy is starting to panic at the size of our squad. 10M is better than risking him being here 31st Aug, getting nothing and finding part of salary on loan
He's not panicked, he hasn't even got rid of ONE player yet, he won't even let old players like Lloris and Perisic move on a free!

Seems like a solid purchase for the future.

NOW BUY TAPSOBA AND VDV YOU FUCKS!

(sorry, I'm not going to stop shouting until I get what I want)

RE: Phillips, checkout the after-burners at 2:10

Don't think it's a surprise that this Phillips deal emerged suddenly after that shocking defensive display and Ange's comments.

I expect VdV to get done fairly swiftly now (by the end of the week would be my guess).

And then Tosin as the second one most likely.

There's a slight hope that this delay is because we are working out how to sign both VdV AND Tapsoba whilst integrating Phillips as well. Possibly linked to clarity on exits for Sanchez/Tanganga/Rodon. But maybe wishful thinking.

Shall we not sign young players for the future then?
We have posters on here claiming we have to de-clutter the squad before we can buy CB's. We've gone on a tour having not addressed the CB problem.
We were allegedly close to getting VDV and considering Tapsoba. But if the rumour mill is to be believed we are reluctant to meet the asking price on either.

Get the important things resolved first rather than wasting the dwindling time on a cheap prospect.

If nothing else it will improve the optics.

Strange cos I could have sworn we'd sold Winks.

Mate; this far down the line, you shouldn't have to have the contract/wage factor explained to you.

Neither leave "for free"; we'd have to pay each of them a years wages (which is roughly 10m each)...... Once Hugo finds a new club he'll be gone..... The same factors apply to Perisic.... Just paying them to leave when there's a whole window to try and find clubs for them is dumb.

I thought he missed the opportunity to play the overlap player in behind a couple of times because he seemed hell bent on trying to cunt in and get a shot off and instead just ran into traffic.

My first proper look at him so early days I guess.
Solo was excellent yesterday.
No doubt you will be describing him as a cockwomble in short order.
I think you watch too much football. You can't see the wood for the trees.

Fair enough I forgot about him

We have to be realistic, no one is going to pay a 5/10m transfer fee for either of them.
