How I read it:
He’ll make an initial bid on Tapsoba that will leave enough to get VdV
If that is rejected then he’ll bid 40 on Tapsoba which will then exclude any bid on VdV.
If our maximum bid of 40 is rejected for Tapsoba then we’ll bid 30 in VdV.
This suggests that we have less than 70m — by how much I don’t know— for both these CBs.

70m euro (£60m) ain't much once you counter-balance against some sales (a modest est. £50m*)......

I hope they're not ring-fencing for another player and leaving us too thin on CB budget.

Greatest post ever made on this forum.

The best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be.

I know you like to try to catch people out on a technicality. I don't remember if it was you specifically or LeParisien, or the goat fella or ionman or whoever.

Over the last few days there's just a faction consisting of you and these posters trying to police "the melters", as well others like myself and Jaynola, for being overly concerned about the lack of a CB signing so far.

I do remember clearly it was Richard Arlison Richard Arlison pointing out specifically this risk, that some other club would swoop in and take VDV/Tapsoba, leaving us hanging, and getting a lot of pushback from some posters.

Def sounds like something that happened.

They probably have a couple of days to fuck around before they miss out on both and have said since the start that Levy doesn't have the minerals to get Tapsoba done in the same window as Maddison. These links always conveniently fail.

VDV they could easily dither over and fuck that up too.

Don't really remember Airfixx Airfixx giving me any abuse over it though. I will make sure he hears about it when the Tapsoba deal inevitably falls through tho.

Given that the CBs are the position that clearly need the greatest upgrade, I’m not sure who they could be ring-fencing for. Perhaps a really expensive CM in place of PEH although he should generate a reasonable price himself. As I said above, I want a LB option but I can’t think of anyone who’s likely to cost a packet that we’ve been linked with.
Given our paucity of matches this year and the fact that Ange only plays two at CB, I can honestly see us kicking the can down the road on a second CB if we can’t get the guys we really want. I wouldn’t buy Lenglet at all. If I’m absolutely stuck bring him in on another loan with no obligation.

I'd be more concerned about them going for Tapsoba tbh, if they're getting 100m euros for Gvardiol off City they will likely make a statement of intent with their replacement, Red Bull aren't averse to spending big when they need to. VDV is a speculative signing for both us and them, Tapsoba is proven quality.
They have been strongly linked to VDV that's all.

They usually buy younger than Taps don't they?

Yeah, I don't have the time or the inclination to track who said exactly what to whom, it's obvious there's a divide, where you, me, Jaynola and a few others are quite concerned about the CB situation and Airfixx, LeParisien etc. are trying to... manage expectations. We're being lumped in with the actual melters for no reason at all.

Have I called you a melt?

No.

Have I abused you?

No.

I barely recall much more than a single exchange with you on the subject of CBs (something I'm only too aware of the importance of) and in that exchange you were touchy without provocation.

So please; stop tarring me with what is frankly bullshit.

Im happy to not discuss this anymore. Not particularly fruitful.

You can leave me out of that too. I've said from the off we need 2, so why would I manage any expectations that are the same as mine?

Ange Postecoglou has said that he wants Tottenham Hotspur to add a centre back to their squad before the new Premier League season begins.

Postecoglou has Cristian Romero, Davinson Sánchez, Eric Dier, Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Ben Davies at his disposal, but Rodon and Tanganga have never been established starters for Tottenham, and Dier and Davies are much more comfortable in a back three, whereas the new head coach’s firm preference is for a back four.

Asked if he wanted to add another central defender to his squad, Postecoglou said: “I think that’s definitely our intention, absolutely. We’ve been working on it for a while and we’ll definitely try to get it done as quickly as possible.”

Tottenham have taken 31 players on their pre-season tour to Australia and southeast Asia, and Postecoglou said that he hoped to have a more streamlined squad by the time they begin their Premier League campaign against Brentford on August 13.

“We’ve got a big squad,” he said, “but I wanted to bring them along and just work with them and get some clarity in my head and give clarity to them, because I think you’ll find that a lot of them will say, ‘To be honest it’s not for me, the way we’re playing and the way we’re training,’ because like I say I do things differently.

“Every day we have together, every game, it gives you clarity about certain things and there’s no doubt that the squad will be whittled down and there will be some more changes between now and probably the end of the transfer window.”

Phillips, who made eight appearances in the Sky Bet Championship for Blackburn last season and was named the EFL Championship Apprentice of the Season, is due to undergo a medical in the UK in the next 24 hours, and could then fly out to join the squad on their tour.

Spurs were beaten 3-2 by West Ham United in Perth on Tuesday. They face Leicester City in Thailand on Sunday and local team Lion City Sailors in Singapore next Wednesday before returning to the UK.

Only person of note I really got to chat to in Perth was Jedinak. No mind blowing ITK to report. Simply that they are working hard to get the players fit and ready for the new season. Players are used to playing a rigid system, with each doing a specific job with no deviation. They want to players to play with more freedom, whilst still being a cohesive unit. Transitioning to different formations and tactics during games - but doing it as a unit.

My take on this is that we lack vocal leadership on the pitch. If Kane leaves, Hojbjerg should be club captain - if he leaves too, I cannot see much leadership qualities from anyone in the squad outside of Dier.

With Bentencaur out for a while, I do think we need to keep Hojbjerg.

Connor Gallagher just scored a preseason goal against Wrexham, so add another £5m to his fee.

I do like Gallagher, but think the £50m rumor is about £15m too high.

I was thinking Bissouma has leadership potential, but not really sure
