I think there’s an assumption here that there always is an asking price. If you are reluctant to sell then you don’t set an asking price. That’s what Levy has done with Kane for example.100%. Don’t pay asking price for every transfer, but now and again when the situation and opportunity means you have to, do it. Liv did that with VVD and look at the return

transfers out past four years
2019 outs - 12
2020 outs - 10
2021 outs - 15
2022 outs - 12
That can’t be right? I don’t recall us selling so many players these years.
Reports have said they want £50 million for Tapsoba, if we want him just pay it and move on. As Zomb said we've saved on Maddison and Solomon so...I think there’s an assumption here that there always is an asking price. If you are reluctant to sell then you don’t set an asking price. Instead you just reject bids, insist they’re not for sale and wait for the bids to get to “can’t say no” money. You don’t set an asking price precisely because you don’t want the buying club to just cough up the money when you might be able to get more.
Of course there are lots of other factors… if the player desperately wants to leave that makes it easier for the buying club. If they don’t it makes it harder.
Also the availability of substitutes (replacements) makes a significant difference. If Bayern don’t get Kane then the pool of similar players is extremely small. Spurs can drag this out while maintaining Bayerns interest. Same with Tapsoba. If there are 3 or 4 Tapsobas in europe at smaller clubs then Leverkusan lose negotiating strength. I think most people seem to think anyone other than Tapsoba would be a downgrade. That will increase Leverkusan’s negotiating strength.
I’m ok with seeking optimal price for Kane. For other peripheral players with low interest eg Hoj, take 20M rather than pursue a 30M offer that IMO won’t comeI think there’s an assumption here that there always is an asking price. Yeah and potentially loans
For someone like Reg, that’s maybe not the worst move. If he plays 40 games and does well, there will be a lot more interest than nowYawn, another broke club that probably wants a loan with option to buy.
That’s a reasonable stance. There are cultural elements to consider as well.I’m ok with seeking optimal price for Kane. For other peripheral players with low interest eg Hoj, take 20M rather than pursue a 30M offer that IMO won’t come
Airfixx seems to be advocating an optimal price for every player. I want certain players gone even if price is less than value. Get them off the wage bill, improve the equilibrium of the squad and remove uncertainty of the remaining roster
It's rather patronising (and arrogant) to suggest that Real Sociedad are "broke".Yawn, another broke club that probably wants a loan with option to buy.
In what way? That’s a reasonable stance. There are cultural elements to consider as well.

They are very well run on and off the pitch, sell very well and, unlike us, have champions league football next season.

I meant that more to agree with you. Having a very big squad makes it harder to keep a focused, motivated group.
More interest but no fee, just more broke clubs wanting another option to buy.For someone like Reg, that’s maybe not the worst move. If he plays 40 games and does well, there will be a lot more interest than now
Players like Sanchez and PEH just need to be gone

Levy backing Poch and quickly moving on Kaboul, Bayor etc was one of the most impactful actions he’s ever takenI meant that more to agree with you. Having a very big squad makes it harder to keep a focused, motivated group.
Well every buisness person wants to sell high and buy low but these tactics at this time are damaging the club, for example we need our number 1 new CB to forge a partnership with Romero before we play Brentford, so we need to cut our loses and be prepared for the coming season, or we'll probably have a bad start.Unfortunately Levy doesnt think like that. He wants to get a deal on every fucking transfer. It is beyond tedious. I'm not a "just pay the money merchant" but sometimes, if you want a player, you've just got to go for it. But he wont.
I'm not saying they aren't well run, just that I'm not expecting them to pay out for Regullion, Spanish clubs and Italian clubs just don't have the buying power of the Prem. It's rather patronising (and arrogant) to suggest that Real Sociedad are "broke".

I think a lot of surplus’s players will go , but while the window is still open for a while yet I can’t see a fire sale, surely the sensible thing to do is to pimp them out first and gauge the interest , then towards the end of the window take the best offer you can ?Unfortunately Levy doesnt think like that. Move him on for a decent fee please. I like the guy but he's not really required any more.
