The player gets to decide if multiple clubs meet the release clause. (In reality, the player gets to decide on almost every transfer.) The difference with the release clause is the selling club gets zero say.

There is absolutely zero reason a club will ever pay more than the release clause.
It depends whether the release fee clause specifies payment in one lump sum.

For instance, just last week, it was alleged that the chavs are willing to pay more than Olise's reelase fee in exchange for a more favourable payment schedule over time.

Apparently they did the same with Jackson & Villarreal.

Chelsea 'submit £39m bid for Crystal Palace star Michael Olise' - MORE than his £35m release clause - in a bid to beat Manchester City to his signature

Mail Sport understands that Olise has a £35m buyout clause in his Selhurst Park contract.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have offered figures in excess of release clauses before - as they did with Villarreal to sign Nicolas Jackson - in a bid to secure a a more favourable payment plan.

Still wouldn't push them ahead of City..... If City meet the clause and the player agrees; he's city-bound regardless.

that’s not meeting the release clause though. It’s the selling club accepting alternate terms.

If a 2nd team paid the release clause, palace would not be able to choose Chelsea’s 39m bid instead of whichever team met the release clause.

But it’s a good point that a buying team could pay more than the release clause if the terms were long term and favorable; this is usually very unlikely but could be possible if the buying club has little FFP wiggle room and needs to pay over a longer period. (But typically the seller would just say FU, I want to keep my player, so it would have to be a large overpay).

The original discussion was if 2 teams pay the release clause, does it turn into a bidding war and a transfer fee above the release clause? The answer to that is no.

Really?

We had Lo Celso, but failed to use him and I think that Kulu is better off as an AM. We literally have a team full of attacking players going forward.

x2 CB, are the top priority of this season and we are just playing game and messing everyone around including Ange.

LB not so much of a problem as Destiny came back from his season long load after we brought him.

This is not the way to run a football club.
Lo Celso just plane lazy previously - only completed 90 mins in 7 PL matches in his first 2.5 seasons , and whilst I fully understand Mourhino and Conte style of play don't suit him, that's an atrocious record. Not to mention his going to Argentina for every call up when assessed as being too injured to play for Spurs, then coming back to go to medical centre on his reyurn

Add Ndombele to your list as a creative player.

But neither fit for purpose, which is why we needed to buy one.

NB. You are the only person to call Levy a spend thrift - spending £40m to buy an AM (Maddison) when we had already got two !

No chance in a million years Spurs and City do business.

There is the most bad blood at boardroom level.

We sold Walker to them. A world record for a defender at the time, but within about 2 years the £50m for Walker looked to be peanuts.

Only bad blood caused by us trying to get Sancho in part payment - we offered more than the £11m they sold him to Dortmund for - but they didn't want to sell to another PL club.

Sure you are not confusing Chelsea and Mancity re bad blood ?

Palace would not choose to sell Olise for £35 million. His market value is more than that now.

So, at some level, the chavs would have to be meeting the release clause but then offering a few million more to alter the terms of the payment schedule. As allegedly they did with Jackson.

I agree that if a buying club offered to meet the release clause in full, meeting all terms such as one lump sum payment, then the selling club has to accept the bid.

The player has agency too. If more than one club trigger the clause, he can choose where he wants to go.

Levy was the leader of the group of clubs pushing for them to get investigated financially.

Pep talks about Levy every other press conference.

They fucked about with Kane.

They are fucking with us over Munn.

It's ugly.

I'd be over the moon if we just signed Gvardiol.

Bale was a record and won Real x2 CLs.

Haaland cost City way over 100m including agent fees and hidden costs

Ronaldo was great for Juve

Van Dijk won everything with Liverpool

Suarez was great for Barca

Lukaku first move to Inter was titles

Alisson for Liverpool
You and I both could make a twice as long list of big money flops.

Yeah, sickening all of those times he just walked off the pitch of his own accord and the manager was forced to quickly chuck someone on to make up the numbers...
