He is giving his best, he has always given what he can, this is just him at his best, past it and not good enough. He isn’t intentionally trying to sabotage us.

Maguire is very much part of the national set up and still in demand. Dier is neither. I don’t know that you can humiliate him enough for him to go. How would that work? Not give him a squad number? Give Ash Phillips a squad number over him? Sounds good but other professionals will be watching and see how he’s treated by the club and it doesn’t send a good message.
He makes 85k a week. What do we think his next contract will be worth? 40k if he’s extremely lucky — probably less. The difference between his current salary and what he’ll make if he goes somewhere else will represent a year’s wages or more.
Probably the best tactic would be to try and buy him out at 50%.
