I wouldn't be surprised if Leverkusen's price for Tapsoba was simply too high for our perceived value of him - felt very much like we were spinning plates, so to speak, regarding him and van de Ven while deliberating which one to pull the trigger on.
Won't be a problem for United as their reputation precedes them and they'll spaff at least 50% over the retail price for any player. Might work out better for us if this is their focus rather than, say, Shuurs (if we're looking at him as the final CB signing).
Now that would be pleasing. Between Bissouma looking OP, Sarr's potential, the Lo Celso redemption arc, and Bentancur eventually coming back from injury we're looking well stocked in central midfield without the need for a guy who spends most of his energy pointing and shouting.
