I thought he was from Togo? I thought his name was not very Togolese!
Lived there, maybe his mum might be Togolese but as his name sounds, Gift is very Nigerian...
I think he was playing for a club in Togo and has a Togolese mother but lived in Nigeria. Come to think of it that’s basically Adebayor but backwards (he was Nigerian but lived in Togo)

Togo and Nigeria are very close anyways, not bordering due to Benin in the middle but only a couple hundred kms apart.

Togolese mother, Nigerian father. Born in Nigeria, reportedly grew up in Togo and is a French speaker.

Was spotted by and joined up with a Nigerian club in 2021, and got a trial with a second tier Norwegian side shortly thereafter.

West Africa is crawling with European scouts. It's a real mystery how this obvious talent slipped through the net.

Levy is paying Dier 80k per week.
A replacement 5th choice CB would cost a fraction of that.

Anyone who thinks Levy is overpaying deadwood to keep out cheaper alternatives is a fucking moron.

5th choice CB?

If you think the club would go out and spend millions on a player to be 5th choice, you are a fucking moron.

EDIT: If you think keeping Eric Dier for his last year is more expensive than spending money on Tapsoba or Schuurs or whoever, over a 5 years contract, you are also a fucking moron.

It was a European scout that spotted him. Well, after the African scout spotted him that is.

Here's a lengthy write up about Mohammed Kudus.

Ghost hardware @ SC

Last season he played mostly as a RWF and false 9 you are right but he’s really not suited to it. When he’s on the wing he struggles staying wide and never looks comfortable with the touch line next to him. He needs the freedom of pitch to operate in. He will often just look lost and ends up drifting centrally anyway. He really really shouldn’t be considered a viable option as a RWF imo, he’s a 10. I can see why WH are looking at him to replace Paqueta.

TBH tho I have other concerns re him. He is incredibly inconsistent, lacks focus and can often go missing for large portions of games. He actually reminds me of Leao in this regard. Both have incredible natural talent but there’s a mental aspect that might end up stopping them from ever getting to the very top. It’s true tho last season Ajax were a mess (they sacked their manager after 10 games I think it was) and one should take that into consideration. Also he’s only 23 so maybe in time and with the right manager maybe he can get focused. There is certainly no doubting how talented he is but for me he is a gamble and I always get nervous when there are questions about mindset. For me I’d rather get a proper wing forward now and next summer get Eze. I don’t feel like we’ve lost out if he goes elsewhere. Yes maybe he ends up exploding, quite possible, but I don’t think he’s as sure a thing as some think.

I was talking to my friend who’s a season ticket holder for Ajax and this is what he had to say. (He was the same guy who said he thought Slot needed another season before moving which I passed on here at the time.)

“Our most frustrating player. Absolutely incredible talent but not sure he has the mental strength. I don’t like him where we play him at the moment. Ajax were shit last season and the heads were everywhere but the games but even so I’m not sure. If you get the Kudu from Ghana you are smiling. Someone will ether get a big bargain or he will be another Neres.”

Sounds like Ndombele 2.0.

Ndombele is on a whole other level, i really didn’t want to make him out like that. I wouldn’t say Kudu was lazy, it’s more of a focus thing. Like I said I get the same with Leao. When he’s motivated and on it he’s exceptional but he just struggles to consistently make a mark on games. One week he might be incredible, next week the game might completely pass him by and you’ll forget he’s on the pitch or he will just make bad choices/mistakes. He does have it in him tho, watching him for Ghana you can see his talent. But i really hate judging players on international form. He is only 23 so still a lot space to grow. It’s just a question if he ever gets to a point he can become consistent regularly for 90 mins. I’m not entirely convinced. That will be the difference of him becoming a star or not. I honestly can’t tell if a better manager will be able to bring it out of him. Tbh I wouldn’t wholly be against getting him in theory but he’s not one I’d put at the top of my list at all as if seen him be completely ineffective a number of times in the Eredivisie. But who knows, maybe a change of scenery and a tougher challenge might bring the best out of him. It’s a gamble tho. I also don’t think we need another 10 atm, I think a WF and a CF are paramount which also puts him further down my list.

Personally, don’t care about squad size.

We only need release players the day the Window shuts, given Saudi think we should allow ourselves the 3 signings everyone sees we need for (with Ange driving the positions and final say).

We just banked £100m selling our best player, Club grown icon.

For the clubs psychological stability we need 3 top players (or talents at least).

It’s obvious we will shift 5-6 if we adjust expectations, then loan or come to an agreement with 2-3 as needed.

Weird source, but here's maybe a bit more detail on Orban:

It won't let me copy text for some reason. Says he was released from a Togolese academy after 4 years there and he traveled back to Nigeria with thoughts of joining the police force, but caught on at a local club and was spotted by Norwegian scouts playing at a tournament there.

You could take offense on their behalf.

That seems to be a very trendy thing to do these days.

If the squad is too big:
1) It will breed a toxic atmosphere due to some players not getting (enough) playing time. And that's a fact, which is why the best head-coaches always prefer a "trim" squad.
2) It will affect the wages bill and thus prevent potential signing from signing.

According to Google born in Nigeria of tongolian (mother) descent

Which is why various measures will be taken between now and the end of the window..... Sales, Loans, Releases.

Release:
Lloris (Released - Will we have to pay some of his final year's wages still?)

Looks about right to me.

Dier is the hinge player between success and failure from an outgoing perspective.

We’re not buying Tapsoba to come in and back up Romero.
If we buy Schuur then he’ll be cheaper than Dier this season. No one is comparing 1 year to 5 years because Dier is gone at the end of the season and won’t block an incoming player next year. Your take is disingenuous (for a change).
