So VDV is dropped?
How do you think VDV will feel about signing for a club and then get immediately dropped?

We were always after 2 CB's that been widely known in the media too so isnt a shock and Romero has cemented one of the spots. We cant rely on just 2 CB's, tanganga is never making it at the highest level with a top club but will have a career elsewehere , Dier cannot play in the Ange system doesnt have the attributes Ange requires which leave us with on Sanchez who might still be sold, we defo need another CB.

Mate....... You're trading in guess-work, your wants and your feelings...... And i already answered the "yeh, but Tap is a better" player synopsis.

I gave your OG question a legitimate answer in the form of a plausible scenario...... My work here was done a few posts ago.
It's about what is likely.

Given Tapsoba is rated higher than VdV in Bundesliga, and would cost more, it is highly unlikely he wouldn't want to sign for Spurs because he'd be fearful of not starting.

For me it depends on what ceiling Orban has. If people at the club are watching him closely and think he could be a real top-tier player in the coming years then I don't mind him being the striker signing. Fairly confident Richarlison will show he's a pretty good player and scorer over the course of the season (without being totally prolific or worth 60m)
Yeah rich will probably be decent. We have enough project strikers in Scarlett and Veliz already. With this clubs history, I’m leery about Orban, although all I know is YouTube makes him look incredible. But CB and winger seem more important to me.

What if we brought in VDV on the understanding that whilst ongoing team selection will be on merit, he would start immediately (which he has) and the place would be his to lose. Then you want to sign Tapsoba, even if he also expects to start, and potentially thereby piss VDV off only a couple of weeks after him joining? That would be a very stupid thing to do.

I don't know if that's the understanding VDV has, but it could be. You certainly don't know that it isn't. My point is that the above scenario is perfectly plausible, and makes signing Tapsoba now an unwise thing to do if it's true.

We're in the realms of one of those situ's where someone will write off any possibility that doesn't lead to the outcome they want.

He'd probably feel upset. But it should be a meritocracy- so if Ange thinks he can do a better job than either Romero or Tapsoba, he should start.

But my main point is it's better to have selection headache and trying to keep a squad happy than having shit defenders come on when Romero does his hamstring.

Edit: VdV can also play LB, so would get game time as unlikely that Romero, Tapsoba, Udogie would all stay injury free for the season.
Tapsoba ain't happening, mate.
Stand on me, he ain't happening.

I think Ndombele was linked to a French club as well.

Yup for every player there could/should be 2 or 3 clubs interested, but its a constantly moving list I think

Rennes also interested in Ndombele I understand. Question is whether we can get him off the books entirely or its another loan paying part wages

But good to see links to 7 of our players we want to move on - preferably with a decent fee

It's not bogus- let me explain.

Net spend over the past 5 years as a way of comparing clubs can be flawed, because net spend in previous years could influence the value. But the extent to which it is a flaw depends on the the discrepancy in the previous years.

So for example if: Club A and Club B had similar net spend from 2018-2023, but Club A had net spend of 200m more than Club B from 2013-2018; looking at the net spend between just 2018-2023 as a comparator would be very flawed.
But if Clubs A and B had similar net spend from 2013-2018; looking at 2018-2023 in would not be as flawed.

tldr Net spend is not always a very flawed measure- our low net spend from 2013-2018 made it majorly so for the 2018-2023 comparisons. That doesn't really apply to my point here, comparing our net spend in this window to Woolwich's.

I swear you also made the argument that 100m net spend for two clubs won't have the same weight due to one of them having potentially spent a lot more thanks to larger fee incomes........

Perhaps that wasn't you; if not then my bad.

If you sign for a top club, you should always expect to be competing against other top players to keep your place in the team.

And again, I don't think 3 CBs competing for 2 spots is anything unusual. I would prefer the selection headache of keeping good players happy compared to relying on Dier/Sanchez if we have any injuries.
Well, yes and no - you wouldn't necessarily expect a club record signing who plays in your exact position to be signed within a fortnight of you signing - that would be unusual at most clubs...

I agree that 3 CBs competing for 2 spots is both wise and normal - but often it gets like that over time, it would be unusual to go from 1 to 3 in the space of a fortnight, unless one is clearly not expected to start.
