If the the club are signing a forward player, it feels like they need to get one that brings a bit of inspiration to the fan base.

If that player isn’t out there this summer, I’d prefer they got a 3rd CB and a younger press resistant 6 to back up BOSS.

and are a laggard in global commercial partnerships and appeal.
Why?
Your contention is that on-field success will drive revenue growth.
Chelsea have had more on-field success than anyone in the world’s most popular league outside of City over the last decade or so but it hasn’t happened.
Surely, you don’t put it all down to a shabby Stamford Bridge — even then match day receipts are the smallest component of revenue. .

Sure as to the bolded, though other stadium events are counted as commercial income, as are stadium naming rights and the like (advertising hoardings I'm not actually sure, tbh). And money is money, a 50M advantage there is as good as a 50M advantage in TV money.

Why has Chelsea been a laggard in the global megabrand commercial stuff? Mostly because their project has been evil and charmless, and a lot because Roman didn't really care to put the effort in.

And all of that is to say, Chelsea still brought in a ton of revenue.

Looking to the future, more matchdays in the revised Champions League is only going to enhance the financial gulf between CL participation and not, and will only enhance Spurs ability to exploit those matchdays more than any other facility in the world.

CL qualification versus no Europe is worth 200M+ annually to Spurs going forward, easy. With downstream effects on commercial deals that enhance that gap even further.

It's just a total business failure to build the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and then put an 8th place team in it. Assigning any marginal competitive value at all to squad investment makes huge expenditure there pencil out.
