Good article this, mainly as it's written by those who know him very well (Aussies), they've followed his entire career, know his football and see what he's done, for them to be even surprised by how quickly he's got us playing underlines that given a better quality of Club set-up and way better pool of players available to him than in his previous jobs, things really do look interesting.

The thing is, cult or no cult the manager is a genius. To take us from the turgid, negative football we have played for 3 years to the side we are now in the space of 6 weeks whilst losing arguably our greatest ever player is just crazy. You'd have to be an exceptional manager to achieve such gains in this sort of timeframe.
Oh yeah, we played counter attacking football for 3 years so that means the players totally forgot how to play attacking football.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s impressive that Postecoglou has managed to instill some of his ideas, but to say he’s a genius lol… I’d call him a genius maybe when he’ll do what the other “geniuses” didn’t, that is to win a trophy.

That's it, totally ignore the context and twist it like you always do

What context have I ignored?
The fact that they dont play football at all in Romania!

That's a heap of made up bollocks that I won't let stand, started lurking here when Ange signed on and have been following him since he was at South Melbourne, he was not driven out of anywhere he doesn't get driven he drives and people love the ride, Melbourne has the largest greek population of any city outside of Athens, it is a multicultural melting pot and the football scene there is long and storied and he is a part of it, don't dismiss his achievements in Oz they were legendary, his coaching at South Melbourne with Paul Trimboli up front were gold! The old NSL rocked heaps harder than the A league has ever!
I dont see what any of that has to do with what I said. He was hounded out of the national coaching job by fuckwits like Robbie Slater and Mark Bosnich.

I don't think it was one thing.

Postecoglou was made to issue a public apology by the CEO of the FFA David Gallop after he said something about the local league (?) I'm sure he took that personally.

The Socceroos campaign was not going great under him- we were the last shot of the game bouncing off the post by Syria from failing to qualify. The team did not do good in the Confeds Cup under him either. He just didn;t have the cattle to play how he wanted.

City Football Group offered him Yokohama and he took it. Many Socceroos fans were pissed off at him for deserting the team 6 months out from the WC.

Yeah it was probably a combination of things but it wasn’t helped by not having the talent to really compete any more at the same level as the golden generation did. We had a 35 year old Tim Cahill spearheading that Asian Cup team.

I've watched a lot of Ange's teams and the scary bit is I don't think it has clicked yet. The intent is there in the way the team is playing but the movement and passing isn't as decisive. Tentative isn't the right word but it isn't second nature yet either.

Agreed.

Also the trio of Son, Rich and Kulu are not doing what Ange's teams have done in the past.

I was actually shocked he signed Kulusevski TBH, crazy as it sounds Celtic's Jota IMO would have been a better fit.

I agree, it seems like there is a long way to go yet.

I've also noticed that he seems to be yelling quite a few instructions from the sideline. When the teams gel Ange is typically one to just stand there watching in total silence. It's very much still early days.

Takes some serious effort to be miserable when your team is winning and playing well, bravo.

I don't think that's correct for 99.9% of posters/fans

And I count myself in the contented group but...

It's the short term mentality of the easily pleased not to say yes, good start but don't sit there patting oneself on the back as though it's a 3 game season..

I think it rational and entirely consistent to say if we lose 25 goals per season that we need to repla e that as best we can.

Anyone who is concerned at the absence of even a loan signing to plug the gap is okay by my book in moaning. Anyone dismissing it just likes their tummy being tickled.

There will be plenty of time for criticism, as we all know football is about moments.

I know some have joined our little community here who are only Ange fans, and that's ok. Happened with Mou and Conte.

Unlike some of the commentary here, i dont see the positive energy as " cult " like. It's just the fact that we as a collective have had to endure years of ineptitude, from team selections, to game plan, and adding salt to the wound, entitled managers who think they did Spurs a favour by taking on the job.

Seems to me some are waiting for failure to prove a point. What a sad way to live.

Right NOW ( and that's all we have ), he has given us entertaining footy, has united the fan base and has held himself in the public sphere with class. Time will tell if he stands the test of time.

If you only focus on the destination, you will miss out on the journey.
