If he had the stats he did playing in say France they'd be a lot more people on board. Same reason people got sniffy about Jarrod Bowen when at Hull or Ollie Watkins at Brentford. 2 players i'd say he's comparable with. I think he fits in well with what we're trying to do. He isnt a £50m player but if we can offload Sanchez and maybe even someone else the other way then i think its a good deal and he'll do well with us in this system.

Spot on.

Let's shed some of the deadwood and bring in Johnson for £20-30m.

So, who is inbetween kvara and Osimhen?

You can't tell me any Spurs fan would be ok with Richy and Johnson as the 2 for 2 replacements for Son and Kane?

Not saying they aren't players good for the squad but they are the replacements.

Why do you keep saying Johnson is a replacement for Son?

Kvara and Osimhen simply aren't realistic options. Neither is Rafael Leao. Neither are any of the other guys on the cusp of world class status right now. It's nonsense to even suggest them.

Let's worry about getting back in the top four and being serious again before we start playing Football Manager.

How about move on to another target?

You trollop.

Meant 'Troll' surely? Possible auto-correct suggests the use of 'trollop' in recent history... Which seems anachronistic...

Osimen reportedly refused:
Man U + CL
Saudi + Bazillions of dollaz
& re-signed with the Serie A champs (and last seasons CL qtr finalists) instead

There is no world where comes here this summer.

I wasn't talking about the reality of now.

I was saying that when we were top 4 last year, we started the process of life after Kane and Son.

Looks like that has reulted in Maddison, Richy and now Johnson.

Those 3 players have the profiles to replace the jobs of Kane and Son.

Maddison I love, I feel like the club could have been more ambitious from the position of strength when we had Top 4 last summer.

That's not really a controversial take unless you are allergic to any criticism of the club at all,

What stats does he have that people are excited by?

I rate the pace and some of the finishes but 10 goal involvements in France would be even more underwhelming.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

No one was clamouring for Osimhen last summer. Not a single person. He was an okay striker at a top four Serie A club. In fact, in his 2 years at Napoli until then, he had only just about outscored the 60m player we had signed from Everton.

It was only last season where Osimhen really started turning it on. And as soon as he done that, coinciding with our fall from top four contenders to where we found ourselves, we had absolutely no chance.

Kvara of course. We should have got him in years ago when we were linked. But I don't for a single second think he'd have made it here. Son was one of the best footballers in the league at the time, so he'd either of sat on the bench for a season or two getting bit part appearances here and there or sent out on loan.

I am not saying that I am happy about Johnson but there are not many Mitoma's around - and certainly not for £3m. If there was one he would have been picked up very fast (Brighton sure did)!
Mitoma actually played in his University team until he was 22 (in 2019), just 2 years before he joined Brighton; so he's a bit of a freak example even.
Fair enough, but Postecoglu was saying Mitoma needn't be the exception. That there's talent beyond the big leagues if you are prepared to trust your eyes. If he has players in mind, who are they? Johnson certainly isn't in this category.

Young player of the year in the championship 2 years ago where he got 18 goals and 10 assists, first season in the prem at 21 where he got 8 goals and 3 assists. People pining for Jarrod Bowen but at a similar age he'd barely established himself at Hull. Really only started kicking on at 22/23. Johnson will turn out at least as good as Bowen.

Development in football isn't linear and that is far from a given.

There's definitely a decent chance of it, though..

True but Johnson has got very similar traits to Bowen, who now seems to be flavour of the month. Neither are going to be Son or Bale level anytime soon but it doesnt mean you cant be a good, effective player. Woolwich should have won the league last season with a load of good but not brilliant players like that.
