Ali said we're willing to let him go for free. If Nice are trying to get him as their second keeper then clearly the fee isn't an obstacle to any club.
The only way they'll agree to foot the bill on our end of his wages is if some how they end up 'owning' him in the process.

Dier still won’t be getting in the squad. It’d look daft if he’s been left out all this time and then suddenly gets on the bench.

Not Sanchez, in Jan yeh fine but we have bare bones CB’s as it is, we now have basically zero cover. Soon as Romero is injured we might be playing Hojbjerg or Royal at CB.
Not the ideal solution but Emerson, Udogie and Davies can also play CBs.
If it's either a permanent or a two year loan for Ndombele, sure. He'll likely be back here this summer.

P'Ok said something about "ripping up" deals in general at the begining of the summer; but the club didn't say anything on the subject; let alone for "most of the summer".

Davies can’t play high line well, Udogie you are removing him from his best position, Emerson might be able to cover RCB but it’s still a gamble.
Even then, letting him go for free isn’t the same as paying out the rest of his contract.
He’d get a payment from us and a sign on bonus from the new club.
Essentially his last payday in his career.
Given his contribution to the club, I don’t see it as an unreasonable gesture of good will for him to hope for that.
Instead we’ve been left with another haggle and player hanging around.
Last year Dier was starring in a table topping team. Maybe he is not a perfect fit for Ange but he is an excellent back up along with Davies.
Plus we have Royal capable of playing CB and Dorrington.
Ange said he would not overlook the yoot and Sayers and Paskotski are also long shot candidates.
There is obviously bad blood between the club and Lloris.

Levy is accused at times of being "penny wise, pound foolish"... Well, if this deal goes through it will be an instance of him being guilty of such.
I love the idea of Phillips being in the mix this season; but let's do right by him and not hang him out to dry.... If he struggles we could wreck him if we have no other options.
(I got the tone from the Dier thread that the club had NOT registered him; can anyone confirm this? ...Or is it just fan chatter?)
Ange is clear he doesn't want Dier involved, couldn't even get in the League Cup squad.
