I don't care if it's a knee-jerk; Levy needs to be handing out contract extensions & wage bumps to a bunch of these lads.... Esp. Romero, U-Dog & Mickey...

Make 'em feel loved and lock 'em in for life, Danno!!!

Jan was one of my favourite modern Spurs players, and I was pretty shattered the moment he took the bench that day and knew he was done.

That we look to have finally found a worthy heir, with as much gift of passing and composure, at 22yo...

Sad Doctor Who GIF
Took so long to get here. Won't ever take it for granted.

The most important one for me is Romero. His contract is a couple of years old now, and he'll be catching the eyes of some big European clubs.

The most important thing is to continue as we are and make a cracking january signing or two to really make this title contender stuff a reality. That will go a long way to getting Romero and the rest to sign on the dotted line.

Un fucking real. I mean, whenever Palace tried to play the ball behind our lines, I was as calm as ever. I knew that Mickey would catch up on attacker, even if he was like 8 meters behind. Absolutely a speed-train. Feels like he has cheat-codes to real life.

And people keep telling that he is fast and strong... both of which are true.
BUT he is also very intelligent, AND good with the ball. So he can dribble and pass.

This guy literally has everything!

So, mr Levy. Make a note. Sometimes if you put 40 mil into player (even a defender) - it could turn out to be woth 100 million in few months. While you could try to find cheaper option for 25 mil who can be worth 10 mil with the same amount of time. For special players it is reasonable to pay significant sums!

Thought VDV was the 'cheap option'?!

3/4 of our back four cost 40m+..... Plus, the other was a snip and will likely become world-class.

They can also turn out like Sanchez, Lo Celso, Reguillon & Ndombonbon

The pair have certainly impressed Rio Ferdinand. And following the 22-year-old’s performance against Palace last week, Ferdinand suggested that he is incredibly excited about van de Ven’s potential.

“Romero and Micky van de Ven are arguably the best pairing at the moment in central defence in the Premier League on form. They’ve been immense,” he told his YouTube channel.

All what you said is facutally true.
But on larger scale - what are you trying to say? or is that just arguing for arguing sake?

Cause well.. I personally had a feeling that after the mentioned Sanchez, Lo Celso, Reggie and Ndombellyfat, at some point there was almost like feeling that bargain hunting is "less risky" and we picked cheper option rather than not. And now VDV is proving that it is possible to make good purchases and potential profit from rather expensive (40+ mil) signings?

Also that backline with 3 players brought for 40+ mil is doing fairly well, ainnit? Which also supports what I said. At the same time, saying something like that is not that impressive, considering many of our competitors pouring money into 80+ mil defenders.

What am I trying to say?

That as an explicit strategy; it isn't a surefire measure of anything, yet it's still a price-band we hit each year and the overall spend is climbing.

17/18 - Dav
19/20 - GLC/Ndom
20/21 - Reg (A window that we did somewhat do on the cheap, but Covid was uncertain times and yet we still had a lot to do.)
21/22 - Romero
22/23 - Richy/Porro
23/24 - VDV

...Just a steady flow. I don't think either of us expects every player we sign to be a 40/50m player. We'd be spending 200m every year.... Not even the petro-cunts do that every year.

And now VDV is proving that it is possible to make good purchases and potential profit from rather expensive (40+ mil) signings?

Possibility wasn't the factor...... We've just been fucking up far too much (even with cheaper players).

As always; as Vic (a purchase that was explicitly vilified as "the cheap option"), Daawg, Sarr (and conversely those more expensive guys too) prove; getting your targets right is paramount.... And that's not about to change.

Also that backline with 3 players brought for 40+ mil is doing fairly well, ainnit? Which also supports what I said.

Your initial comments suggested that was something that wasn't previously happening; thus I mentioned those guys.

At the same time, saying something like that is not that impressive, considering many of our competitors pouring money into 80+ mil defenders.

The point wasn't to laud how expensive our players are! ......But as for other teams; I'm simply unconcerned about them. A battle of the cheque-books naturally renders us 6th....... No-one wants that, right?

It's not like there's been a slew of 80m defenders anyway..... IIRC; there's 3 and the only outlier that would be vaguely relevant to us and a team of our wealth is VVD at Liverpool.

TL/DR? In short.... There's no golden rule and that includes recruiting by price-tag.
