Johnson was a data signing as well, everyone at the club was on board with it.
What was the data be interesting to see?
He played in team which basically counter attacked. He would be good in conte system. However in a high press possession based team I don’t see how he fits in. Needs to have quick feet, wriggle out of tight areas, withstand pressing and generally have good pass and movement.

Maybe Ange thinks he can develop him and he currently has the raw tools that he can nurture, players do improve you know.

Whilst I don't see them too similar in style. I think Gordon is a great comparison.

Many scoffed at the links to him last year. Especially for the price being banded about. Almost begging for Chelsea to waste their money instead. Didn't score enough. Didn't assist enough etc.

Fast forward a year and he's very much improved through coaching, probably hard work on his end and being in a system that helps get the best out of him and we can all sort of see what Paratici saw in him.

Well, Paratici has been scouting Johnson for 2+ years and we finally got him.

But Johnson was playing regular for NF for a few seasons already. Gordon cost less as well. I prbly didn’t want him but with hindsight atm he looks better vfm. I’d add may be Gordon has more skill and can actually beat /take on players. Whereas BJ I think relies on his pace more which v low block trans is almost negated.

Many fans scoffed at Gordon as well if I recall

Johnson was much further ahead in his development when we signed him than Gordon as well.

Stability and structure Johnson will be very good.

Mate he literally just took on Kyle Walker and crossed for a late equalizer with his weak foot.

What's the relevance here?

As a 21 year old, he was involved in 11 goals in 2941 minutes (33 games) for a poor Forest side in his first season in the top flight...

At the same age, Gordon was involved in 10 goals in 4,371 minutes (49 games) of Prem football.

By about £2.5m...

I think Gordon is a good player. Alot better than I have gave him credit for. When we were linked last year, I thought he'd have made an excellent right wing back in a Conte team.

But he's gone up a level through no doubt his work ethic, Howes coaching and the system he finds himself in.

Johnson could quite easily do the same. If he has the same work ethic and wants to improve, he's at the right club with the right coach.

Ange does make adjustments for different opponents. He also makes adjustments at half time like the sub against City.

What he doesn’t do is change his philosophy. Find me a top coach that changes their philosophy….

Pep? Nope
Klopp? Nope
Even Xabi Alonso or Xavi? Nope

What you want is to win again. That’s what we all want but it sometimes shit goes against you in an ugly way. That doesn’t mean the coach should just rip up his philosophy and start again.

Klopp definitely threw his philosophy out the window against us in the CL final. They went 1 up and sat back and dug deep.
He also changed it when they went down to 9 men when they took their forwards off and tried to get a point.
And for all I know, he's changed it many times in other games to try to get over the line.

What he didn't do when he first took over though was change it.

He played knowing he didn't have the squad for it. Because it was about getting the fans and team. to believe what he was doing.

It's why they celebrated a draw against West Brom. (which everyone ridicules) in the same way we celebrated beating the likes of Sheffield United or other wins or results so early on, because it's vindication that things are heading the right way by playing the right way.

Some of Liverpools results in Klopps early tenure are embarrassing. And some games, his team got absolutely battered. But he also took it to the big teams and battered them.

Guess what? Not a single Liverpool fans gives a fuck about those. Because of where Klopp, his philosophy and coaching have taken them. Just like in a years time, it's likely we aren't going to give a fuck about that time we lost three on the bounce.

Just hope the club understand this and back him to do so.

CL they didn’t sit deep by choice , they were cooked from a long season and couldn’t maintain the levels.

He didn’t change with 10 men did he? He’s also years further ahead establishing his project And he lost after changing his philosophy with 9 men so maybe he regrets it.

Gordon acted the cunt when he first arrived.

Howe had the stability of his position to bench him and teach him how to be a pro.

Would that have been the case at Spurs with all our fuckery over the last 2 years?

Johnson has started better than I expected and will be very good for us. I don’t get the bed wetting about him.

Overly emotional fans is all.

They see us not win and anyone whos got something worth criticising is criticised.

Win today and it'll be roses again, don't worry.

Johnson wasn't great against West Ham. Is what it is. Get over it and move on. Let's hope he can perform against Newcastle.
