One other thing we really don't have alot of very good passers in our team, Eriksen is known for his vision or creative ability but him aside nobody else is reknowned for their passing ability. We've loads of guys who love to dribble and shoot or get on the end of moves but we've very few players who are actually above average at setting them up with quick intelligent passing.

I dont think it matters to be honest, as long as the team movement is good. Oh, wait...

Good movement means the most simple pass gets you where you need to be. Great movement can mean a difficult pass need never be made.

Hudds definately not the answer but this bloke :vdvshh:

well maybe we should've fought alittle harder to keep him as he was a genuine world class player in his prime with a winners mentality and a never say die attitude who relished the big games

but then AVB seems a tad bit scared of players he can't fully control, me I'd of put the armband on him and built the team around him......

Would the rest of the team also have to come off after 60 minutes?

yeah but with how teams park the bus against us alot of the time you need some quick intelligent passing, one twos and the like to open teams up

Andros played a lovely reverse diagonal to Siggy first half which showed he's got that ability in his locker which teed Siggy up for a great chance that he hit just wide

we should see stuff like that far more often to be honest cutting in pulling defenders with you opening up space to sneak in the back door and fire off a shot or stand one up at the back post but that was just about the only time I saw it all match

Soldado too makes great runs alot of times and the semi difficult pass is never made in favor of keeping possession by choosing the simplest option available. We are struggling bigtime in getting the right balance between adventurous passing and playing it safe. Our counter attacking game is piss poor.

I dont disagree, Townsend has a huge amount to offer - which is why he pisses me off so much.

It can go either way, a good passer can force a run from someone else, equally a good run can prompt the pass - whichever it is to be we need to get it working sharpish.

I think our players are all athletic and technically sound, so expect the latter to be the winning formula, we have few that are outright classy on the ball but plenty that are better than average

That was a myth tbh his fitness hoodoo. Alittle research would show you we're the only club in his career who felt the need to consistently take him off early. Ajax and HSV(still do) regularly played him 90 minutes unless he picked up an injury. Just another bandwagon the lemmings have all jumped on imho.

The way people are defending Soldado is getting ridiculous now. They blame every player from the right/left back not crossing to him all the way to the midfielders. But none of the blame is on him. Might aswell say we must sell all the players we have nd buy players that will suit him.
Is 27 million that much money that we have to mould our whole team to his wants ala Torres with chelsea. I think he should change his style to suit our style of play or he should just be benched.

Neither are premiership teams, totally different pace/stamina required.
I often thought when he was taken off he was on his last legs, tank empty.
And Redknapp is a manager happy to run anyone into the ground who can do a job for him, that he of all people took VDV off speaks volumes IMO.

Ah but the premier league is far quicker and more physical so your fitness has to be much higher to have a positive impact for 90 minutes. So the story goes.

Anyway this is pretty OT and I love rafa to bits so will leave it there!

Soldado is what he is and always has been, we knew that when buying him. He is the Spanish Bent lol.
His game isnt going to change, and if it needs to it was bloody stupid buying him in the first place instead of other options.
We brought a striker who thrives on service and then provided him none, I dont hold him responsible for that.

We'll never agree on this as I argued it to death with people at the time, VDV himself even came out and said he wasn't happy about it in an interview as he was use to playing full matches. The German league is pretty fast paced too. Harry was just trying to keep his love child Defoe happy.

Of all the players we signed this summer, only Capoue has convinced me of his quality more than Soldado. I am sure in time Eriksen, Lamela and Chiriches will prove to be more astute buys, but for the here and now I really think Soldado is a gem.

Those who make the argument that Defoe doesn't get the same 'allowances' for lack of service, miss the point that his movement and presence is far more threatening. I actually think he is a lot better at hold up play than people give him credit for - I can recall his chasing down a loose ball and outmuscling Ashley Williams against Swansea (no mean feat).

If our wingers and full backs start to hit the byeline more frequently (or at all) and stretch the play then I think we'll see the best of him and wouldn't bet against 20 goals for him this season.

I am not a massive Arron Lennon fan! Never have been! However, I think he could be the answer to Soldado's goal drought! Lennon obviously has the pace (and some trickery) to get behind the full-back and to the by-line, but can not lift a ball, with pace above his own knee height! Perfect for Soldado. If Lennon, once the full back is beaten dose not try to do what he can't do or look to cut it back, as a result of not being able to do what he can't do!!! An just looks to put the ball in low and quick, then for me, Soldado will do the rest!

Have Lamala and Eriksen alternating the No:10 role. One go's, one drops/supports. More often, Lamala coming, carrying from deeper, as when he runs with the ball will draw players towards him. The space that would create could see Lamala pick out Soldado/Lennon of square to Eriksen, for him to do the same. Sandro/Paulie behind sitting winning/stopping ball that has been turned over. What you would have already from this flawless formation, is that there is littl threat down the left! (until Rose returns) so Lamala will be have to ask to play a free role and occasinally play wide when Vert brings the ball hal way into the opponents half!

All very good, blah, blah! But no matter what system you play, we have too increase the tempo ten fold. And the players that wear The lillywhite Shirt fo 90 minutes of a weekend have the ability to do this, they just need the instruction and a wee bit of patience and support on match day!

Praying for Tempo, Not in aTemple! That;s what;s needed!

Lack in creativity for attacking midfielders of Spurs (low form in the last weeks 0-0 with Everton,0-1 with Newcastle,0-6 with Man.City,Eriksen injured etc) ,that's why Soldado don't receive many passes (assists),and he's alone in the box, isolated...i think the midfielders of Spurs have a problem in this moment ,not Soldado 100%...

If there's any dip in Soldado's form (personally i can't tell since he is not seeing too much of the ball anyway) than that is because of the piss poor service he has been getting
