To me it's as simple as this, swap an older player who wants to leave soon for a younger one. Gallagher is home grown and Hojberg wants to leave soon anyway due to not being in the starting 11. We should sell him in January if we can get a better replacement...or even like for like - he only has 18m left on his contract and won't sign another one.
No it doesn't mean that. It just means there has been a chance to get a fee for him and we've taken it, much as we did Sanchez.

Nah I think it’s clear we’re in for him and we’d be really short. We could always wait for the summer with PEH. I’d be very surprised if he’s let go with no replacement

Why surprised? It happened before in the summer, it's happened in the past. I don't see us doing business with the Chavs at the price they want.

Selling Hoijberg - for potentially more than we signed him for - is great. Selling him without a replacement is suicide.
Like selling Dembele who had six months left and was becoming injury prone. Getting a fee was smart, not replacing him arguably derailed the season and questionably the CL.
Well he's from Senegal, so signing him to sort out our January injury crisis would be a bit of an own goal with the AFCON on.
