Transfers January Transfer Thread 2024

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

If you haven’t see Dragusin then watch Genoa when you get a chance. He’s exactly what we need. He’s a big strong aggressive defender who can shift but brilliant at using his body and that’s what’s very impressive about him. He doesn’t let forwards dictate to him. Good on the ball too and has a bigger pass in him if needed. If I had to pick between him and Todibo then I’d go for him. I’ve seen Dragusin an awful lot more but have always been impressed.

Sounds good..... Prefer the idea of some hard EasternEuropean cunt to some tricky, potential problem-child from Ligue Une.

Currently we have Bentancur, Bissouma, Skipp, Sarr, Maddison plus Lo Celso and Hojbjerg (7 players for 3 places) plus Kulusevski who has dropped back to cover Maddison's injury

No way are we upgrading at CM by getting another CM in without selling one of both of Lo Celso and/or Hojbjerg,

If we sell 1 (or 2!) MFs this Jan and STILL don't sign a #6 then someone at the club has lost the plot.

In fact; selling ANY MFs before a replacement arrives is pretty much suicidal too.

In a world where our rivals consistently buy £100m players, we're resigned to ruling out players like Olise cos he'd cost north of £80m.

I'm not even saying spend that for him, but we're so far behind our rivals in that regard that we don't even get to dream about such players.

"Consistently?"

There's only EVER been 5 £100m players.

3 were to Chelsea and have all ranged from dud to meh.

Man U - None.
Liverpool - None.
Us - None.
Newcastle - None.

Players transferred for rooughly £100m.

Enzo
Grealish
Rice
Caicedo
Lukaku

There are dozens of players bought in recent years who cost far more than our record transfer Richarlison.

Again, I'm not saying we MUST spend loads on Olise, the point is that we rule ourselves out from such transfers completely. If Ange really does want Olise and Palace demand £80m, what are the chances that we still persist?

That's the thing I'm pointing out.

So far it's only fans on a forum doing that.

Do you not expect us to break our trf record in the coming windows?

It's hardly a wild prediction to think so.

Well he's from Senegal, so signing him to sort out our January injury crisis would be a bit of an own goal with the AFCON on.
Spurs had plans to sign a CB back was not to solve the January injury crisis but to simply because the lack of quality CB back up - but, of course, injuries to Romoero & van de Ven has exacerbated the injury problem; which makes the signing of a CB even more urgent.
Angelos told already last summer that Spurs needed a CB. Sangante may not even be on their "most wanted" list anyway (but if he is I trust their assessment of him).
Besides, it's not sure Sangante will be selected in the AFCON squad. So far he's not played a single game for Senegal.

Are you suggesting that we shop in the same market as our big 6 rivals? Even the two London ones that have similar revenue to ours?

We may break our record by a few mil but we'll still rule ourselves long before our rivals do for any given player. Would we have spent £100m for Grealish or Rice? Fuck no. Would we have spent even £70m for Gvardiol? FUCK NO.

Maybe we should put a £100m bid on for Gallagher, I'm sure that will make everyone stfu

I've not "suggested" anything. My comments are completely clear. No strawman (or insults) required.

My 1st post was basic facts that contradict your much exaggerated claim that the rest of the top EPL teams are "consistently" buying 100m player. That's just not true. Only one has done it more than once and 4 (inc. us) have never done it at all.

My second post; fans have every right to speculate that we won't spend 70/80m on a player any time soon, but it's far from being fact... It's just a prediction. I think it's feasilble that we will.

We've reportedly spent the 4th most in the prem over the last 5 years whilst being the 5th-6th/6th-7th richest club in the league (Subject to NC). Where do you insist we be in that spend list in your instead?

When we were looking at Gvardiol he was alleged to have a 85m pricetag (even though he only had 1 breakout season and was injured at the time).... Even then, the vibe was "fuck off; he's already destined for City". Lo and behold he eventually signed for City a year later for 77m.

Besides..... City are no credible benchmark. It's ridiculous to have to explain why.

So if Levy doesn't consistently back off when the price gets high, why is our record transfer so far below the rest of the big six, including chavs and arse who have had a similar or even lower revenue than us for several years? We're clearly choosing not to compete for players being sold at a certain price point.

Scum were supposedly in competition with City for Rice, and they ponied up the £100m required for the transfer. Do you see us paying such a large sum? The last time we did something like that for Ndombele, and it was only about £50m.
