In all honesty they looked like they lost all belief in what they were doing after the first half.It was a perfectly fine tactic and generated numerous chances on the break that poor decisions from their attackers meant they didn’t score.
They fell apart at 1-0 but before that the game-plan was working fine and they had carved out the better openings, relying a lot on our own (predictable) mistakes.
We were just more clinical when they made mistakes in the 2nd half and tight, tactical affairs tend to end up with one team running away with it when they lead.
It wasn't from a purely defensive and press/control perspective but that doesn't win games. our xG was 0.02 wasn't it?The 1st half really wasn't as bad as a lot of people are making out......

Went 5-3-2 to counter our tactics when he's played 4-4-2 all season, made it really easy for us to pin them back.

Speaks volumes.
More so not challange at times. They were convinced he would try and injure them. Not accusing of being weak but being cleverIt was pretty clear that they had received instructions from Ange/someone not to retaliate, especially Udogy!

Douglas Luiz was decent the rest were shit.
Mickey Van der Ten out of Ten pocketed Bailey from minute 1
Bissouma was strong and assured apart from that abysmal pass.
Johnson was aggressive from the start.
Udogie ran through them.
Was only a matter of time they fell apart. And they really did.
Was a bit embarrassing for them. In all honesty.
I'm pretty sure we've not scored this many goals after 27 games in any Prem season...
That quite telling.
We fucking bullied them all game. VDV ended Watkins. That didn’t matter. We created nothing the entire first half. Literally nothing. Tactically a masterclass. Slightly better pass on one breakaway or Watkins shooting early on another and they lead.
From there Emery I think was hoping for lapses. They came, Villa’s players just didn’t work with them.
Then they just fucked it horrendously in the second half .. I don’t think Emery had faith in some of the individuals and you can see why. The ‘keep it safe, hope for breaks’ setup was working till they were dumb.
Emery is a great tactician. But tactics are just that, game still comes down to players. I saw this more as Villa’s players letting themselves down than a tactical failure.
What's weird is that Villa and Palace especially, caused us a bit of frustration by playing defensive, not really engaging in the press in first half of games.
Only for both of those teams to come out pressing us in the second half and both times it cost the teams.
They're not the only teams to do it. But it's just odd why teams choose to do it against us. When they do, we absolutely blitz teams and score a few in a spell.
I don't think people realise how draining playing defensive football is.
Because he’s a Saka fanboy who dreams of swallowing Rice.We fucking bullied them all game. VDV ended Watkins.
Why shit on our performance?

I think Spurs plan with the lack of strikers capable of scoring 20+ goals being available is to get a number of forwards capable to getting 20 or so goal involvements (ie including assists) in the squad.
Hence we now have Son, Richarlison, Johnson, Werner, Maddison - and we've scored 59 goals in PL this season versus the top 3 who have scored 70, 65 and 63 respectively so our strategy is broadly working given its Johnson's first season and Werner only came in January.
I dunno mate.
Defensively they were fine but tactics are two way, not just defending but attacking as well and what I saw is a poor Villa team going forward struggling to create opportunities and play out. That 4-4-2 was the same formation which made City and Woolwich look ordinary by the way when they visited VP so why change it, overthinking?
Paid us way too much respect which meant we ended up dominating most of the match, they were chasing shadows and got tired as a result.
You can't say that was a tactical masterclass and then say that he didn't have faith in the players to pull it off.
I can, I remember when Emery was at Woolwich. He would have the same cowardly approach giving the opposition too much respect even if they were weaker.I can't believe their game plan was to knock it long. Knowing we've the best recovery centre back in probably the world.
