There's a difference on pace and acceleration though.. someone like Messi, wasn't actually that quick but his first 3 steps were very fast wheras I think Johnson takes awhile to get to top speed. Also why he isn't great at taking ppl on.

Everyone almost always remembers glaring misses/fuck ups from players more than they remember goals scored tbf. Rosenthal, iwelumo, soldado Vs fiorentina etc.
Comparing Johnson to Soldado isn't doing him any favours
He’s been really solid. Probably our most improved player imo. He puts in a good shift defensively as well.
His stats are genuinely really impressive at a glance and his xA is even pretty high so it’s not a total fluke. But then he fails the eye test badly for me.
But inarguably he has been effective and produced goals and assists. I just struggle to see that baseline of technique or spark where you think he could really build on that and explode. But a good PL player for sure..

He's got the same assists as Saka, who's also got 11 more goals than Johnson.

Do we have stats which show how he has been compared to other wingers in taking on players, dribbles won, etc? That's where he fails the eye test..
His take on stats are pretty poor (bottom 25th percentile) compared to wingers and AM's big 5 leagues
Progressive carries are ok (66 percentile) but that's often him being put through and carrying the ball not taking anyone on.
Sure and Saka is ahead of him right now. You can’t buy Saka for 45m either.
But there is definitely a world where the two of them finish a season with almost identical numbers for G+As

Saka's scored three times the amount of goals.
Saka’s xA is significantly higher at 11 as well. With the caveat being he does take some corners.
