How Dry should our Powder be?

You are using word play to make an argument.
Only a GK makes saves with his hands. GKs do not score goals. GKs very rarely make assists.
You could change Vicario with, random name, Buffon, and not so much would change.
But, take Kane away, and the whole team changes. Because field players are more connected to each other, and they all can score, make assists, tackle.

Eh? I'm literally using your own words, you said that Vicario saved us didn't you? But I see you've try to deflect answering like a pro and hide behind some truly elite mental gymnastics, bravo. :D

Our keeper wasn't even our best player this season anyway and as much as we hail Vic's heroics like all players he has a weak spot which are set pieces so it's not the best way to judge what we need.

We know what we need to improve this team anyway.

Nothing wrong with that. I’d say players like bale and kane thought similar about us. Thomas Frank saying how he’s the man for the big occasion makes me think England should also take him to the euros. He’s an amazing penalty taker and we need those.

Bales performances PROVED he was too big for us.

Toney hasn’t proved or earned shit since he’s come back. I’d be more disappointed by signing Toney than I would Werner. At least Werner isn’t a prick and guarantees hard work without the ball and assists. We shouldn’t be anywhere near any of them.

We should take a look at a few players from wolves. Cunah is one 12 goals he had this season and he missed about 7 games with an injury he creates and is exciting to watch. You also have gomes I'm sure it wouldn't take much to turn their heads. Trust me wolves are not in a good position financially and will be struggling next season

Interesting list. But how many are realistic? To me our problems elsewhere in the squad are so big we should be looking at keeping Son as our primary LW for now and purchasing a long term successor who we can ease in.

Sancho would interest me if he'd accept lower wages. I'd need to see more footage of CHO but he's had a great season and it's not unheard of for wingers to grow into their potential at 23. Mitoma would be the dream. The rest are non starters (Musiala, Gordon, Williams), or not good enough (Pulisic).

Eze is a good player but it's too much money for someone who probably wouldn't displace Son at LW nor Maddison at #10. And playing him at #8 would leave us very light defensively in midfield. That amount of money we need to be spending on guaranteed starters not rotation.

Toney and Guirassy the ones I'd be looking at here, potentially even both. Wouldn't break the bank and instantly improves us. Frees up cash for elsewhere, especially if we can flog Richy to the Saudis. Isak would be the dream but him and the rest are probably unrealistic. Gyokeres would also be on my list. Darwin I'd run a mile from.

I'd also take a hard look in pre season at the likes of Parrott, Lankshear, and Kulu false #9 as back ups.

We disagree on the need for an #8 over a #6 so I won't go there. But your #8 list is sound, I'd take Gallagher for anything under £35m so long as it doesn't fuck our budget.

Re the RW, Olise the dream purchase but he'll probably pick someone else. Raphinha would be on my list. Wouldn't touch Neto with a barge pole, Ange ball will shred his hamstrings.

Agree on most except Toney. Just no from me.

I think Raphinha would cost similar numbers for fee and wages to Olise. UTD might be in the mix but under Ratcliffe they might not spend the same way and already have a 90m investment into Antony they need to address. Chelsea don’t need and won’t chase. That leaves Liverpool or PSG. I could definitely see him staying at Palace.

If I’m the DOF, I'm only looking for players that are first team ready for these priority positions, (absolute guaranteed upgrades in bold) my list would look something like:

LF
Kvaratskhelia
Mitoma
Eze (RF/8/F9)
Simons (RW/8?)
Williams(N)
Gordon (LF)(HG)
Rodrygo (RF)
Pulisic (RF)
Sancho (RF) (HG)
ThuramM (CF)
Barcola (LF/CF)
Musiala(8)
Tel

CF
Isak
Osimhen
ThuramM (LF)
Openda
Sesko
Guirassy
Boniface
Darwin (LF) (if Liverpool want to cash out - I'd take a punt)
Toney (HG)

If we get rid of Richarlison we need a back up list also:

Undav
Wahi
Moffi
De Ketelere (RW)

RF (I'm struggling a bit here)
Olise
Kudus
Neto (Injuries permitting obviously)
Bakayoko

Back up options for development
Zhergrova
Amin Adli (not first team ready maybe but he can go inside and outside so worth listing)

8
Wirz (RF)
Brandt (RF/LF)
Eze (LF/RF) (HG)
Musiala (LF)
GomesA (HG)
MGW (HG)
Gallagher (HG)
ThuramK
Majer

I know many are unlikely and will get laughs, but I've listed players who would be more or less sure to upgrade us regardless of likelihood or at least first team good enough, unless otherwise stated. I'm sure I'm missing some, especially from places like Spain and Portugal where I watch very little football. I've kept it mostly to the ideal age profile (with the odd exception).
Good list.

Do you not think the 8/10 role in one we’re somewhat okay in? We have Bentancur, Sarr, Maddison, Lo Celso, Bergval Skipp?
Not a really top class group but it has room to improve. What we surely need is a really top class 6 to knit the midfield together.
Bissouma just isn’t that guy.

This doesn’t sound too believable but it might not be the dumbest business we ever did.
£65m of our budget gone on 2 players that barely shift the dial. Not convinced. Neither are terrible, homegrown bonus and versatile but unless we have another £180m on top for 3 real difference makers up front then it feels a bit of a waste of resources. Plus it helps those fuckers with FFP.

65m seems very steep.

More like 55m imo based on contract situations.

Chalobah could potentially solve 3 problems for us in terms of squad depth if they believed he could play the inverted FB roles as well as CB depth. I doubt they’d sign him if they didn’t believe that.

8, LB/RB & CB covered with homegrown players for 55m? Not bad business imo

We had a young, pretty highly rated left sided wingback a few years ago. I don't remember his name.. But I think we sold him. Anybody know his name, and where he plays now?

He made some amazing quality point black saves during our purple patch, games that we would have lost or drawn.

Every player played their part this season

It's like saying VdV "saved" us the amount of times he swept up at the back
Son "Saved" us the amount of goal contributions he had

etc...

The argument that one player apparently overachieved or outstanding compared to the others is disingenuous and just lacks a load of context.
