Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

So we didn't let Lloris, Dier and Sanchez all go, then relegate Royal to the bench and add Udogie to the starting line up then?

We saw there was a massive problem with our useless defense and replaced almost all of it.
And conceded a few goals less. It's actually baffling how we managed to upgrade so significantly but barely have tangible evidence of it.
And if we're comparing to prior seasons, we conceded 21 goals less the season before. With that same awful defense.

We scored more and conceded less whilst playing much better football.

Dier was MOTM in a CL SF just now btw. Between him and Dier they had hundreds of games worth of experience in the prem.

Udogie, VDV, Vicario all played their first prem season, whilst Porro played his first full season whilst adapting to a new position. There is plenty of excuses there if you want to make them. I just don't.

Why isn't he working on tactics with Mile and the crew #Angeout
The sad bit is you are not wrong 🤷‍♂️

It's not baffling at all, it's perfectly simple - we have played a more attacking style of football this season, in order to score more goals, and that naturally gives our opponents more / better chances too. However despite giving our opposition more / better chances, we haven't conceded more goals, because we have better defenders and keeper. I really don't see what there is not to get here, it's incredibly simple. :/

The flipside is also true, there are people devoted to defending every single word uttered/action made, any criticism or questioning is dismissed as "you just don't like him".

Couldn't be further from the truth for me, I like him, I like the game he talks, I wan't him to succeed, but as the season went on and particularly the latter weeks, there's been a few instances where he's rubbed me the wrong way, and I'm very much on the fence with regards to his tactical "masterplan".

I guess this is no different to Son getting his kit off for Gucci or whoever in his spare time, it just seems out of the ordinary, as it's usually out of work managers taking on these roles.
Venables is the only other spurs manager to have done while managing us as far as I know.
I have actually no issue with it. I like how he talks and I’ll actually watch the before, half time and after chat when he’s on.

Another thing going on from that,I felt teams were very clinical against us we were one of the lowest for giving teams shots at our goal. There were quite a lot of games where teams only had one or two chances and took them. Nobody missed loads of chances against us.

Our "totally risk averse" defense last season was Lloris, 3 from Dier, Sanchez, Romero and Davies with Royal at RWB and either Sess or Peresic at LWB

Our defensive unit, even when Romero played was like watching the 3 stooges most of the time. If Dier wasn't playing opposition attackers through on goal, we had Lloris throwing it in his own net or Sanchez getting booed off the pitch after the worst 20 minute cameo in PL history.

This season we've had a keeper that I believe made no errors leading to goal all season, 2 top quality CB's at the top of their game, and pretty useful FB's. And we still conceded almost as many goals. I would, on paper at least, expect the current unit to concede 15-20 goals less over a season than we did tbh.

But a completely different tactical approach which leaves those defenders much more exposed.

The previous tactics had 5 defenders in line with four midfielders about 3 yards in front of them and just shuffled from side to side, all in our defensive 3rd of the pitch.

Our current tactical format has two cb’s on the halfway line, both FB’s pushed up into midfield and the rest pushed into the opponents 3rd of the pitch. When the opposition attacks it’s often on the break With only two or three players in front of them spread across the pitch.

Both systems have their defensive pros and cons and better players will always help both systems but when transitioning from one system to a completely different system with an emphasis more towards possession, progression and territory There are often inherent back door issues.

The bus park system is far more defensive orientated in its coaching.
