Ex-Spurs Player Danny Rose

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Best worth listening to in the context of the podcast. There’s nothing wrong with how he’s says it when it comes about.

Not mentioned by Rose (as far as I’ve got in it) but similar was said about Sherwood pushing for Kane to play and baldini for soldado because he signed him. So Rose wasn’t the only Englishman with a problem.
I've not listened to this podcast yet but The Spurs Show had him on for a chat last week and he repeated what's been commented on above almost word for word. Also said how important Sherwood was to the development of younger players and thought that he was a decent manager. Must be parts of a concerted effort to get DR's profile raised.

I listened to it. He comes across well and is popular with the audience.

'England players laughed at my Tottenham salary - even our win bonus had another clause'

A former England international has opened up on how he was mocked by his team-mates because of his weekly wage at Tottenham.

Danny Rose has opened on the culture inside the England camp when he was an international, claiming Tottenham players were mocked by team-mates for not earning enough.

The 34-year-old made 210 appearances for the club between 2007 and 2021. He also won 29 caps for the Three Lions, with his final appearance coming in 2019.

Despite playing in a Champions League final that year, Rose believed Spurs players were underpaid and had to endure taunts from their fellow countrymen when on international duty.

"England team-mates would laugh about how much Spurs paid us," Rose told In The Zone podcast. "When we would go away with England, the lads would laugh at us at what we're being paid. And I have one friend who was at another club.

"I remember one season where West Brom were fighting relegation while we were near the top, and some of their players were on more than what we were on. That wasn't right.

"With Spurs and win bonuses, you had to win by at least a couple of goals to get a bonus from it. At the time, I don't regret saying anything about it because it was the truth, but now I think the lads are being paid appropriately."

Rose signed a five-year deal worth £65,000-a-week in September 2016, but the following year he went public in an attempt to land another pay rise amid reported interest from Manchester United.

He told The Sun in 2017: "As with everyone else in my team, in my opinion, I am worth more than I am getting. In any walk of life, if you think you are worth a certain amount, why settle for less? I am not that person.

"If I get to levels I reached last season — and this goes out to everybody — I will make sure I get what I am worth."

He was fined two weeks' wages by the club for complaining about his renumeration, although it is fair to say his comments were supported by his Spurs team-mates at the time.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is known to drive a hard bargain at the negotiating table as he maintains strict control over the wage bill, with only Harry Kane handed a deal beyond the club's normal structure.

Son Heung-min is the highest earner at the club with a £190,000-a-week salary, according to data from Spotrac. James Maddison is paid £170,000 a week, Cristian Romero and Timo Werner are on £165,000 a week, and Dejan Kulusevski the other only player to breach the six-figure mark with £110,000 a week.

Since leaving Tottenham in 2021, Rose played for Newcastle and Watford before becoming a free agent since 2022. He was spotted training with non-league side York City to boost his fitness last year and, while he hasn't closed the door on a return to professional football, he has recently undertaken punditry work for Sky Sports.

'I was frozen out at Tottenham - I know how Spurs treat players'

The defender made 214 appearances for the North London club before his departure in 2021 after his contract came to an end

Danny Rose insists he has no ill feelings over his Tottenham exit - despite finding himself out in the cold.
The former England left-back clocked up more than 200 appearances during his 14-year spell with Spurs after his arrival from boyhood club Leeds in 2007. However, Rose was shipped out on loan to Newcastle United and found himself frozen out of the first-team picture on his return to North London before eventually joining Watford on a free transfer the following summer.

'I played for England – my team-mates would laugh at how much we were paid at Tottenham'
“It's football and I know how Spurs operate," Rose, 34, told the In The Zone podcast. "It happened to David Bentley, Benoit Assou-Ekoto and Vincent Janssen among others. I'd been there as a young kid and I know how Spurs treat players.
“I had a meeting with the chairman and I said I'm not leaving until my contract is finished. I knew what was coming and I knew I would be sent with the under 23s. When I said that, the chairman looked at me like he didn't know what language I was speaking as if to say they would never do that. Then on the first day of pre-season of the new season, they did that. So it wasn't a shock.

“For me, I honored my contract and that's all there is to it. I still go back to the club sometimes and I've messaged the chairman quite a few times. I've asked him for favours quite a few times. There’s no animosity from me. Three years ago, Leeds played Spurs in the last game of the season and I was sitting in the director's box there, just a row behind him.
“As I said, I've messaged him for favours over the last two or three years and he's always replied, he's always said if he can help or if he can't help. So for me, there's no issue on my side. Whenever I’m down south, I do go to Tottenham games and see some of the staff who were still there.”

A) you agreed the weekly wage, Danny.

B) you are being laughed at by players at Chelsea and Man City, amongst others, they distorted the wage market and every man and his dog knows that.

C) if it bothered you so much, Danny, you should have followed Kyle Walker’s example and transferred out, if you could have done.

D) first-world, rich people’s problems, eh?!

E) supplemental: the world knows Daniel Levy is tight.

P.S.: I liked Danny Rose as a player and fullback.

I try to remember the good times for ex players, and I won't be forgetting his rocket of a volley against Woolwich any time soon. (And how they tried to cheat and restart the game while we were celebrating).

Serious chip on his shoulder, whilst still earning more in a week than many well paid people earn in a year!

Hold my beer while I tune the world’s smallest violin! 🙄😂

Was he underpaid or were his fellow England Teammates overpaid?......take your choice, there's an argument for both. NB: there were also 5 other Spurs players in the squad during this period and he's probably the 2nd highest-paid of all of them. Defensive players on more money than him would have been Harry Maguire (LOOOOOOOOL we all know he's not worth the salary he's being paid at Man U), Kyle Walker (highest transfer fee ever paid for by any Club for a defender at that point in time), John Stones Man City.

Tripps was on approx the same money when at Spurs but then took a paycut when he went to Atleti (for the record Rose was x10 the player of Tripps)
Eric Dier approx the same at the time
Joe Gomez in 2019 he signed a deal worth £75k pw (prior to this was on £40k pw)

Leaving Chillwell (who was still at Leicester at the time),
Keane (Everton £45k pw in 2019)
TAA 19yrs old for context
Mings (Aston Villa was on £25k 2019)

Rice at West Ham had just signed a "bumper deal" at West Ham in 2019 earning him £45k pw, prior to this he was on £3kpw!!!

etc. etc.etc......

Always liked Danny Rose. Argued with my boy like fuck on it. You cant train fight into someone. You can't really train pace. He had both.
The shit you can train in, he learnt. Always thought he was slightly off mentally, but aintvwe all.
Hate this shit about money though. Envy cos someone else is getting more although you are getting plenty.

It is so understated at the top level. It is what makes the difference between players like Rose and Dele and players like Sessegnon, for example. Sometimes they just have it.

Shows what sort of clowns were in around the english team so

I loved Rose.

I think what best typifies him can be seen with his individual performances against Woolwich and specifically when his opposite number was Bellerin. If you rewatch any game against them I urge you to focus on their individual battle that game(s). Belerin was a much, much more technical player than Rose but there wasn't a single game played that Belerin got the better of him, Rose eventually dominated him every single game. It usually followed a similar script, they would come out of the traps fast for the first 10 mins, with their main attacking outlet from Belerin out wide. Belerin probably winning most of their duels in this 10mins. But that was him done, Rose on the other hand was just getting warm and spent the remaining 80mins just running and running at Belerin who just couldn't handle his relentless physicality. If Rose couldn't run past him, he would simply run over him. (the only goal involvement he ever had however was a fluke assist as he miss-hit a pass to Ramsey in the 2-2 2016).

Another game that typifies him is the one(s) in the CL semi vs. Ajax. For me, his performance in the first leg at WHL was the better given the context of how much we were under the cosh in the first 20mins. To this day I've not seen a team play as well against us as Ajax did in that first 20mins but it was Rose who stopped their flow. It was Rose who put his foot in, took the game by the scruff of the neck and led by what I would call a Roy Keane'esk performance. He simply got in their faces and gave them a game they didn't want. Where he led others in the team followed that night. Obviously his nutmeg on Frankie De Jong that started the move for our first goal that 2nd leg night will hold some memories but for me, he was the guy that steadied the ship in the first leg.

Oh he is Doncaster ignorant. All the things that make him a bloody irritant now made him a damn fine LB. He ain't that sharp and you know he's breathing because he won't stop moaning. He's Yorkshire and I'd want him in our trench any day of the week he was part of a horrible team to play against. If Richarlison Sessegnon and a few others had his grit we'd be better off.
PRIME
Rose Vertonghen Alderweireld Walker Wanyama Dembele

This is a Championship winning foundation squandered on the alter of N'kudu and N'jie. I hope to god we see it like again.

I think if Richy is ever able to string a few games together we will see and identical type of player as to Rose, their games are fundamentally about attitudes. We've not seen it but that's the player Watford and Everton fans got to see.

Going to tell you my honest opinion mate...I don't think you're ever going to see that man again, I don't think that bloke exists. He was young and hungry but I don't look at Richarlison and see that chippy warrior that is intrinsic to who Rose is. I think Richie fought primarily to secure his loved ones, and he won that battle. Job done. But I actually think he is quite fragile.Hope I'm wrong obviously.

...... only motivation he still might have is getting back to being the first pick Brazil No. 9 , which technically for any Brazilian player is huge, but will his body allow him will be key in this.
