This keeps getting repeated, but what suited an Ange Celtic, Brisbane or Yokohama side doesn't necessarily translate to the Prem. Completely different game here.

The best strikers of the last decade are all-rounders, they hold up the ball well and play with their back to goal, link the play and keep possession - Kane, Haaland, Costa, Aguero, Benzema, Lewandowski.

Increasingly this has come at the cost of goals: Firmino, G Jesus, Havertz, Giroud. The best possession football managers are increasingly relying on clever hold up specialists over pure goal tallies, because they keep the ball, which ultimately brings more control of games and more points on the board.

Rarely now do you just the top managers satisfied with a goal merchant who just runs in behind. And I suspect given our striker targets this summer (Toney, David), Ange agrees.

Relating this to Spurs, Richy's goal tally in his two month purple patch was good, but how many of those games did we control? How many did we play well as a team? Ask yourself if Pep, Klopp or Arteta would pick him? It's no surprise to me we are open to swapping him for someone who can control the ball.
richy is a useful striker if youre going direct and getting the ball in the box. haaland doesnt fit the city mould, he still gets his numbers by staying away from the ball in buildup and being a box threat. we have to treat richy the same way.

we dont have the players to really boss games in the way city do so we do have to go more direct. horses for courses.

He averages about 11 goals a season. For a guy who offers basically nothing if he's not scoring that's not great.
his points per game have been very good since hes been here. players only have the ball for like 2 mins over 90 in a game. his work in the 88 without the ball is good! theres a reason his PPG is good.

defenders wont like playing against him because hes a relentless dog who will not stop. hes up for a scrap and hell gladly go into challenges and duals that most wont with the same conviction.

Thing I don’t get is right with ‘all these clubs helping each other’

Forest must want Anderson? Like, he’s there now in their books, they’re paying him a wage… they’re not gonna take him if they don’t want the player at all? It’s not really beneficial if you get stuck with a player you don’t want?
They sold Mangala and Niakhate - both bang average players - to Lyon for stupid money. OL boss doing a solid to the Forest one as seems they got other deals together outside football.

So they basically paid nothing for Anderson, who is young, British (could still opt to play for ENG) and won't do worse than Mangala.

They're playing 3D chess.

When Neto is on the pitch, he's close to a dream wide player signing for us. Would be so perfect...

It's just that I don't think you can guarantee him playing more then 20 odd league games in a season. It just feels like a risk we can't/won't take right now.

has anyone actually watched Doue play? i'm being honest here, has anyone actually seen him for at least 5 games?
I'm in France a few months a year and often get invited to Ligue 1 games by business contacts or friends...the odd Coupe de France tie too. Think I saw Rennes live 3 or 4 times over the past couple seasons, and a few more on the telly.

Kid defo has great feet...and a big ballsack. Ligue 1 is full of defense-first teams, lots of games are shot-shy borefests, so kid like that is a breath of fresh air. Whenever he picks up the ball, you expect to witness something special.

Still got to mature physically, mentally and tactically, though. Joining PSG would be a terrible move, though they'd make him a zillionaire in no time. Bayern a much better option...Ribery, Coman, Tel, even an old fart like Lizarazu or Sagnol could tell him how crazy solid an institution they are and how it'd do wonders for his development. But if the French kid is sensible a la Archie, maybe we got a shot cause there'd be less pressure at Spurs. Come here, tear the PL a new one for 2 or 3 years then you get your big move to Real a la Bale.

If he goes to Paris, says a lot about where his priorities are.

Ange's comments on ITV about him loving all the young players being thrown in and trusted at the euro's is looking like it could be a preview for us next season... Archie Gray, Bergvall, maybe Mikey Moore and maybe Doue if that can be done.. I think he's preparing to give them a lot of important minutes next season.. Even if we as fans may be tentative about whether they're ready or not.. He might just see it as a case of throwing them in at the deep end and lets see who can swim.
Agnes certainly talks the talk but I'd like it more if he'd put his money where his mouth is.

It's all fine and well patting yourself on the back for playing Udogie and Sarr - they were established quality before Ange arrived. Throwing Phillips, Donley, Moore and Lankshear in is what takes balls. Is what Klopp does with the likes of Quansah, Conor Bradley, etc, and has Liverpool reaping the benefits.

Looks like de ligt is going to united…..

Very curious one… Bayern don’t let good players go, this is a guy who was dropped for Eric Dier… also can’t make the national squad ahead of De Vrij

Not saying he’s bad just would be very wary of the signing.

Then again, it’s united so they’ll offer an 6 year contract at 400 K a week
Very United signing.

Big name. Overrated. Mega wages. Recently underwhelming on the pitch.

So glad their new ownership structure looks to be just as incompetent as the last.

Eze would be an amazing signing and so would Neto if he didn't have a shitty injury record. Another player that would be a very good signing is Mbuemo at Brentford.

Seen him a few times (I first mentioned him in sep 2022). He’s still raw, but good feet, quick, tricky, very much in the Nico Williams physical/type mold. I’ve seen him play inverted LF cutting in, but I think he can use both feet and go both ways. I quite like him.
