Indeed and considering he's their no1 target they should be paying more or does that rule only exist when it comes to Spurs?
They know what they’re doing. We play a totally unconventional right back style imo. I’ve always thought he was a class defender. He’s got a really distinctive style which doesn’t necessarily equate to bad player. The world is filled with tidy ballers, put them against a solid pro and they can’t compete.

YeS PLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🍆💦💦💦💦

No way is he better than Neto, dueo or eze plus don’t think his that young. Didn’t do much for Italy in euros.

would take chiesa for 25m. its a gamble worth taking for that price all day long.

the games he can play hes an upgrade on werner and son, even if you only get 15 games out of him a year its worth it.
No and that is why we don’t get anywhere. Just spend the extra and get eze, Neto or the young French kid. We have Moore as well. Guy is injury prone as well. Offered very little for Italy.

Why the arbitrary 23/24 age cut off? We also need experience. Chiesa is 26 not 30.

25m is peanuts. We're giving Werner 160k a week ffs.

We need depth in all areas and the wings are probably where we have it least.

Son, Kulu, Johnson, Werner, Solomon, Gil is a very meh group and the last two will be moved on.

Chiesa + Doue for 65m would be a massive improvement to the group although we would be a bit LW heavy.
Maybe that is why the Neto links are surfacing as we need better on the right.

I'd be happy with any 2 of those 3.

Eze as the icing on the cake and we win the league.
Neto on the right, doue on the left is a massive upgrade. Get eze for AM role and we would be cooking. Not seen what the fuss is about cheisa.

If we are going to spend £60m+ on Eze, I’m expecting around 10-15 goals and the same number of assists from him.

Is he that player? I’ve honestly not seen it yet. Brilliant highlight reel, but not a long one.

Well he scored 11 goals and 4 assists in 27 league appearances last season.

He'd be immense for us. People saying we shouldn't pay 68m will be the same people moaning that we don't spend big on players. If he has been identified as the main target then we absolutely should spend 68m.

Where does he play in our team, there's no defined role for him?

I like eze as a player but that amount of money is better spent elsewhere in our team

Gray already in, Doue, Neto and then the rest of the window we see if we can bolster in the LB, RB, LCB and FWD areas and that would be a pretty decent way to approach it given where we are I think.

I think that's more than fair. I think they probably say Ito as the one that could cover both LB and LCB if need be but obviously that ship has sailed.

Yeah Griezmann is only Atletico Madrid's all-time highest goalscorer and one of La Liga's best foreign imports ever. Also scored 40+ goals for France and gotta be one of their top 3 assist providers in history...playing a lot of his 130+ caps as a MF. How many times did he single-handedly save Simeone & Deschamps' asses. The guy's won the WC, Europa League, Liga, Copa del Rey...reached the CL final, WC & Euros runner-up, was in the running for the Ballon d'Or multiple times. But yeah he ain't special.

If you get excited by a pace merchant running in a straight line, go watch track & field. Ask any Rennes, Dortmund, Barca or PSG fan who knows their footy and they'll you what Dembele is worth...and how fast they'd bite your hand off for a swap with Griezmann.

You're obviously entitled to your opinions, but calling Griezmann nothing special and raving about Dembele, you gotta be on some serious sauce, pal.
He was absolutely world class last night again 🙄

So 15 G/As, the same as Johnson who many here think is a flop.
My guess is roughly the same amount of minutes on the pitch.

Don't obsess over the value of the transfer fee for a player.

All our competitors routinely spend +£60m on almost all of their players now!! We have revenues bigger than all bar 3 of them now, so we are now swimming in the lane we have always aspired to, this is what it looks like.

If you want to focus on "value" then that's on what we pay them on wages. This is where the danger is if the player isn't any good, as they can sit on your books on inflated salaries and no one else can afford to take him off your hands (every club is littered with these mistakes). Transfer values are amortised over the contracts meaning future transfer fees can easily be obtained but only if the salaries can be afforded by the new club (and they rarely are). And our expertise has been to keep our salaries at a base way lower than our competitors, in fact, we have the best wage-to-revenue % in the division.

Spending £30m-£40m on an 18yr old (Archie Gray) for example means that by the time he's 22 with a year left on his contract, he stands us in at £8m!! This is the same across all the young players we've signed recently and as they are young I'm assuming that their wages are "relatively low" (I'd be surprised they are above £100k per week).

Eze is in a different bracket, he's 26 so likely his next move is to be his last in the top flight, his wage demands are likely to also be high as a result but as he's at palace I assume they are still affordable for us, coupled with a buyout clause that requires this to be paid upfront means this is a huge investment. And because of PSR that makes us one of about only 2 or 3 clubs that could entertain this deal. It also means that despite all the press noise surrounding him Palace do not have a queue of Clubs competitively fighting over his signature, which is actually very bad for Palace, who would love to sell him if they want to continue investing in the squad (he's 26 - approaching his maximum value but with 2yrs remaining on his contract - currently stands them in on their books at £6m), right now Palace position is to say he's not for sale (as we did with Bale), whilst secretly keeping their collective fingers crossed one of the 2/3 clubs blink and make a move for him.

I love the fact we are linked with him and the likes of Williams, Neto, Doue etc I'd happily see any of these at Spurs with probably Eze being the most expensive option when you take his age, wage and upfront lump fee need to be paid (bet that can be chipped away at if we really are one of a couple of clubs sniffing). We offloaded a lot of players already, some that have been on massive wages (Ndombele, Kane, Lloris, Peresic all on approx £200k pw, with Dier, Sess, Sanchez, Winks, Moura and soon-to-be Reggie, Royal & PEH all on competitive wages with Rodon, Tanganga & Spence on smaller wages) I think we can afford to roll the dice on a player if those within the club think he can come in a fit the system but might turn to shit under the Tottenham "expensive hires jinx".

I’m not wholly convinced either in his ability to deliver at the highest level, or is he that much of an upgrade on who we already have? Does he replace Maddison? Johnson?

I’m convinced by what I’ve seen of both these players that they’ll have huge seasons for us, Johnson especially. So are we spending that money on depth? Big cash when we could get a big upgrade at centre forward by spending a bit more.

Good post Guido. Loads of clubs around the league are struggling to get rid of average players because they are just on silly wages (Man Utd being the biggest example). It is such a fine line. If Eze was to come then he has to be a hit, he cant be a failure. It is a lot of money up front though isnt it.
