I don’t care if Maddison is technically much better than Johnson if he scores and assists less often. That’s true absolutely and it’s true if you adjust for the slight difference in minutes played. Johnson had a better season than Maddison and is four years younger.

The only reason to bring in how much technically better Maddison is, is if you think this season was a blip. Still strange that people go for our second most productive player this season when there were many worse performers.
Football/trophies at the highest level are played and won respectively by the teams that have the players that are technically better first and foremost, then tactically, physically etc.

Like I said, to be technically substandard and contribute at the highest level you have to be outstanding physically and/or tactically of which Johnson is neither.

If you think Johnson, a substandard technical player, starting the majority of games for us is more conducive to us winning trophies then you are lost.

Worth remembering where goals and assists came from last season in PL

Son - 17g/10a
Richarlison - 11g/4a
Johnson - 5g/10a
Maddison - 4g/9a
Kulusevski- 8g/3a
Porro - 3g/7a
Sarr - 3g/3a
Werner - 2g/3a (half season)
Udogie - 2g/3a
Romero- 5 g/0a
Own Goals - 5

Winners score more goals - so that has to be on the list as well as players getting assists.

No goals and no assists = bottom of the league regardless of playing style.

You didn’t respond to my post so we can’t have a conversation.

If nobody is buying and other clubs reluctant to sell (as the players they sell need upgrading0 it means there is no/minimal market to do business in.

Market will pick up after euros/copa america - but will still affected by other clubs close to having ffp problems, ability to do business.

So 2nd half of July more business will be done

Meh

That's only effecting players involved in the Euros. Other players are moving and we are seeing deals done for players that are involved now. Brighton have done the Wieffer deal for example.

The issue with our forwards wasn't primarily scoring goals. We scored a decent number of goals. It need to improve but it's more about how it needs to improve that counts.

We need to be able to score in more ways and from different situations. We also need our forwards to influence the game when it's not fast and transitional. We concede goals when they can't help us control the game.

That needs recruitment and tbh if we get them right, it will make the others better.

I posted the full list of all deals done in PL.

In summary 'bugger all'. The market is almost dead atm.

Spurs with Gray, Werner and Bergvall looks to probably be the best selection of incomings of all PL clubs.

But I hope we do more business in 2nd half of July (post euros/Copa) and August - as I'm sure most clubs want

Nobody is doubting we need to improve.

But lets not lose sight of the fact we do have positives in our squad already who we do not need to throw away - as well as players such as Solomon/Gil where an upgrade is needed which should add to both numbers and variety of types of goals scored, and ditto in a few other positions such as a LCB/LB.

What excites me is the quality of the young guys coming in and the enthusiasm and energy they will inject into the squad!

Winger in an Ange system which gets them the ball a lot in highly dangerous areas with space and numbers forward vs midfielder...

Maddison is a better footballer than Johnson.

If Emerson goes we've got 5 out permanently, which isnt terrible for early July....Ndombele, Sess, Tanganga, Rodon and Emerson. Hojbjerg will go, i dont think the fee will be an issue, it will likely be around £20m, just the Euros have slowed that down. Pretty confident Lo Celso, Spence and Reggie go. Think its Gil, Solomon and Davies we might have issues with.

I thought some were being too pessimistic about outgoings and thought we'd get rid of 10 by September and sticking with that. The rest we'll just have to loan.
Davies will stay 1 more year as versatile emergency cover.

Should be a market for GLC at 10m and PEH at 18-20m.

Spence, Reg and Gil will go for peanuts if the move is permanent. I could see loans with low obligations instead. Spence to Italy and Reg/Gil back to Spain.

I wouldn't mind loaning Solomon to a PL club with an option to buy for a decent fee. A good season would drive up his value nicely.

Jonhson brought in as cover found himself thrust into the first 11 much earlier on than was expected
This keeps getting repeated for some reason. Spurs don't spend £50m on cover.
He's the best presser in our squad. NO ONE wins the ball back as high and as often as him.

This is the best presser in the squad? Really?
