Ah yes that was a classic alright. Go in with an offer for a player when their team is cash strapped but then make a balls of it because another club that know what they’re doing get in before us and we’re left looking like mugs.
And when we didn’t get Martinez that summer what forward did we sign again? *checks notes* Ah yes, nobody.

A tale as old as time, my friend.
Too True.

The same with:
Moutinho
Dybala
Isco ( We signed Sissoko last day of the window instead)
Grealish

Levy does this too us time and time again. We have not and will never sign a top quality player at the height of there careers under the current ownership. That is why we built the new stadium not so we can buy the same type of players we were in our old stadium. That is why we pay the most per game for a season ticket in the country on average.

Well s
I get that window is not closed yet. And if we sign someone close to closing of the window, it will still be too soon to evaluate the window... but SO FAR, it has been 2/10 window for me.

On the back of past season, it was so clear what we needed -
- a striker that can keep the ball up and help with goals
- tricky winger that can take players on and create chances
- reliable #6 in Kante mould who help to control the midfield and take room from opposition players

So by now we are not far from new season starting, and we have moved on Hjojberg + number of players that did not feature at all in 2nd half of the season.
And brought in 3 18 yo players who might not play single full 90-minutes game in EPL in coming season (hope they do and hit the ground running though).

But we HAVE NOT addressed the most important issues, and as of now, nothing such seems even to be close. Also we have been absolutely tragically shit with getting funds from outgoing players. Sess, Ndombelly, Perisic and Tanganga were all released on free. With first three it was inevitable, but releasing young HG player for nothing ?! Any other big club would have sold him for 8-16 mil eur for sure.
And then we have Royal, Lo Celso, Regulion all lingering around, while we should have sold all of them.

Very- very poor job so far.
Time to improve, but so far -shock
Well since the rest of Europe's clubs are skint, it's very hard to flog the deadwood!

That's the negative thing about being the only serious league in the world that are filthy rich. No one outside the country can pay the wages!

dont think it's dead, Man u , villa, Chelsea have done quite a bit. lots of clubs around the league have bought in many players. it's just ourselves, Woolwich, city and Liverpool who are a bit dead. Maybe we're all waiting on players from the finals/semi finals

Villa and Chelsea deals are mainly players at inflated prices between 2 clubs trying to manipulate their respective bad ffp positions.

Not real deals which affect their prospects - Villa even sold arguably their best player from last season, so forget those 2 clubs as measuring transfer market activity

Trying...not...to...bite...

I'm calm about it still.

Lange signed Danny Ings for Villa without anyone knowing, even that rat Romano didn't know. We've been stung before with out targets being leaked and other clubs trumping us.

It's been a successful window with outgoings so far, and Emerson is about to added to that. I expect at least another two first team additions through the door.

I don't think that we can just get Lautaro. He's very loyal to Inter. But he is arguably the best striker on the market that is somewhat available.
Martinez has given no indication that he wants to leave Italy despite prior interest from elsewhere including 2 of the 3 top Spanish sides. He has a young family. He has supposedly agreed to a contract extension through 2029 at Inter — don’t know if it’s been announced yet. He’s going nowhere.

There is always a “nearly” big signing with ENIC.

If you want to go back further you can throw in David Villa, Luis Fabiano, Arshavin (laugh if you will, he was a very good player that any Spurs fan can recall being excited about signing back in ‘08)
Or who could forget our legendary deadline day hunt for a world class striker in the winter of 2011.

A few times you could say it was genuine efforts by the club or we were just unlucky.
The perpetual nature of it however would lead any rational thinking person to conclude it’s 100% a ruse.

Personally I don't think it is a ruse. I think it is Levy always thinks he can get a deal and then bauks because it is not the deal he is expecting so cannot take the risk. But it makes the talk of Spurs signing a top player non existent.

We will always sign the second/third tier player and be told to be happy about that is why we see everyone act like an Eze/Neto like signing would be some amazing signing.

Anyone know when our latest financial report is issued? Should be a stellar revenue and profitability trophy to shove in the faces of mates who follow other clubs

Can’t wait

Come on you financial accountants

We are by far the greatest team (of financial analysts) the world has ever seen

FEEL THE GLORY

The outgoings have been better than a 2/10 on their own. Especially if we find a perma-home for Reguillon.

I think we are at 5/10 so far. That's not a knock on Archie Gray either it's just because he's not yet proven it in the prem.

If we add one more attacking player with get to a 6/10.

How has it been better than 2/10 ?

- Tanganga was released on free. He is 25 yo HG player that played 50 games for us. Other clubs sell such players for like 10 mi
- PEH loan with obligation to buy, but he really seemed like valuable property after Euros, yet we look to make like 12-15 mil for him ? Again less than I was expecting.
- Rodon deal was OK but not very good. He was in the end, nailed on starter for side that nearly got promoted. Also HG player, I could have seen us getting 4-6 mil more than we got.
- Gil is loaned again (!) not sold. Pointless yo-yo game, throwing away, taking back. Losing money and wasting time.
- Perisic, Ndombele and Sess released - well with them it was fully inevitable, I agree with that much

Regulion, Royal still here and with Royal we are looking at 10 mil loss (!) despite OK performances on EPL level.

All of it together is absolutely horrendous.

Outgoings on their own is max 1/10, if not 0.

Nothing happening until we get back from the tour, same as last year...may as well temporarily close this thread until the weekend, enjoy the Sun and touch grass 😎
