These tables are a bit deceiving at times. If you have one teenager who plays most of the season you will get almost 3k mins . Newcastle had that because of Lewis Miley who only played because they had tons of injuries. You cannot say Newcastle have a top academy, don’t turn out many players. Mainoo played half a season for Utd because of injuries. Woolwich were lucky with injuries so didn’t have to use young lads to fill in. Not defending them but that’s why they have lost him but also two others to Brighton and Luton.
And that’s why stats are false at times

The man has missed more than a year’s worth of football. Two major injuries in 2 years and has completed 90 minutes twice. Only started 3 games for us. Why is anyone going to bat for him.

The style of player he is I can assure you that he will suffer knee injuries all his career and we will be lucky to get 30 appearances with most coming from the bench and he has only played in 30 games in a season once before.

I have nothing against but that injury record and the fact he has been distinctly average when he has played I wouldn’t waste a squad place on him.
Why are some happy to keep him based on his injury record and then turn their nose up to Neto who is 3 times the player. Should sell, cancel timo’s loan and get Neto a proper game changer. Have Moore and donkey as backups along with Son. Tired of have these average bloody players.

To be fair to him. A fair few of villas best players were bought by him.

Last season some had very good seasons.
Watkins 40 G/A's
Bailey 27G/A's

Martinez is an excellent keeper

Decent full backs In Digne, Moreno and Cash(apologies).

Also kamara and Traore(think he's gone now)had decent seasons beforehand among some others.

When he went there they survived the drop by 1 point. They now competing for European football again.

Obviously it's not all down to Lange, Emery has done a fantastic job.

But Lange didn't do bad and he ultimately left Villa in a better state than when he arrived.

(I left out their signings from start of last season as not sure how much influence he had on them)
I'm pretty sure the Martinez move was setup by his predecessor. Bailey is very very meh, he's the epitome of hit and miss and I don't think he levels Spurs up. I'm on record as not rating Watkins. I think even being kind to him, the signings highlighted are part of why I'm not particularly impressed by his work.

Honestly it's an odd job D.O F lots of critics (like me ) and sometimes unfairly credit going elsewhere. But the truth of it is, despite people poised to scream VDV and Vicario, IMHO Spurs are now at a place when we need the next level player to get us to elite. That means agents fees and Mendes and the Super parasites. It means the wage bill expanding. When those moves start to happen I'll buy in. Till then it's SSDD.

Tbf, they were a just promoted team at the time and no matter how much money the owners want to throw around, better players wouldn’t join. Also Gerrard as coach didn’t want data-picked young players.

Just one forward apparently!
To those who said timo was just a loan / stop gap he still takes a place in the 25 man squad. We could have used donley or Moore there instead and bought in real quality. As it is if we are paying him £165K/ week then he is not gonna be left out of match day squads. Thus blocking likes of donley who could play there and Moore. If we lose our young talent bcos their path is blocked first team average squad players then I give up. Ange had all season to experiment and give some of these players game time and everyone would have understood. Anyone really think his gonna do that now in his 2nd season where he says his going for the title.
Postecoglou says a lot of things.

My guess is that our issues selling players stem from the end of a very successful squad that everyone wanted to buy players from and then switching to attempting to satisfy Jose and Conte with B-Tech win-now type players with very little resale value. Also we haven't had much success recently and clubs want to buy a piece of success not a piece of a club on the decline.

Now that we are back on the path of buying very talented younger players, hopefully the squad is on the up and players will be more attractive to buyers.

That sounds reasonable overall, yes. Part of our selling-side issues can be traced to that.

But I mean there is also some real unrproffesionalism involved too. Cannot stress the Doherty's case enough... how in the last second it was found out that we can't loan him and thus he was released.

I'd get fired on the spot if I'd fuck up like that.

Another thing is still that we haven't sold any academy players really. I mean take Josh Onomah and Tom Carroll for example. He had lot less chances in starting lineup than Tanganga, and we sold him for 5 mil 7 years ago. Or Alex Pritchard - sold for nearly 10 mil without getting chance for us. Or if you want a defender - we sold Caulker for 10 mil, even though he got lot less games for us than Tanganga.

Now wherever you look, we are making losses and releasing players. Even Rodon was sold at small loss, despite very strong season in Championship. With Royal we are talking loss >10 mil, even though he was brought youngish. With Regulion we would be lucky to get 1/3 back from what we paid.

I'd say last two good sales we made were 2 years ago - offloading Bergwijn for small profit and letting Carter-Vickers go for 7 mil. Last summer - rather poor deals (incl Winksy) and this year - I already descibed.

We sold Winks last year for 10m, Andros Townsend and Steven Caulker before that

On Gallagher I just think why? No better than Hjojberg and doesn't want to come to us. It's embarrassing if we are interested and defies logic or anything of quality that I have seen in the bloke

The Euros revealed his limitations. Not sure at all what Postecoglou is looking at if he thinks Gallagher is the answer, which is not to say I might be completely wrong.

Eze would be good. I think City bound.

I just don’t know. It all feels very reactionary nowadays our transfer moves. Like you say we need a striker yet there doesn’t feel much appetite for one.
