Noises coming out of club are that we are not looking to have subpar players anymore - it’s better to sign no one than someone who isn’t right for the project… otherwise you are left trying to sell mediocre players two years later with no PL buyers and everyone on the continent broke.

Let’s bring in the right players even if they take a bit longer to bring in.
What a load of apologetic bullshit.
This is borderline trolling, mate.

Let me get this right. Levy has taken us from Kane to solanke in under a year and even got some of you convinced it’s a good Idea.

It’s spursholm syndrome, how on earth is he still alive.

Solanke a lot better than Richi

Genuine target man, can hold the ball up well. Richi looked like he might after the 2-2 at United, but never again and maybe only then because MUFC players are useless pressers.

Solanke also a lot quicker. Most of the balls crossed along the 6 yd box aren’t converted. Brennan good at the far post but he’s bloody quick.

I was keen for Toney but the more I look at it then DS the best option imo.
I definitely think there are better strikers out there (Victor Osimhen for one) but it’s very possible that Solanke is the best striker available*

*who we can reasonably do a deal for

I’m not exactly over the moon for him but the striker market is truly barren.

We're the softest fanbase in the PL, highest ticket prices but zero ambition to achieve anything more than the occasional Top 4 finish.

But don't worry, 30 non-football events per year and a hotel is on the way!

I get that. And I also get that transfers aren’t easy to get over the line.

But surely a club of our size and stature have a scouting department that has a few options at every position, in every age group.

Ask the first one if they’ll join. Get a no and move to the second, third and fourth. There can’t be that much of a difference between each player if our scouting is on point. Get a no from the fourth guy and go back to the first with improved terms and repeat the process.

Let’s say we’ve only identified Osimhen as the striker we want above all else. How long do we wait for him to make up his mind? Or Napoli to do the same? Do we hold off and go for him again next season, leaving us light up front this season? We eventually have to move on from our top targets if they won’t come. Not strengthening because we can’t get the perfect player isn’t going to wash.

As i said, I get that these deals are tough to do, but they shouldn’t be this tough.

Who cares that on paper we went from Kane to solanke. What actually matters is how it impacts the team. If solanke helps the team that’s all that matters. He may or may not, I don’t know.

I’m reasonably happy with Solanke in truth, I don’t think he’s a needle mover but I’ve always quite liked him and he’s a definite improvement on where we’re at. He’ll be good for us.

I guess my only concern is the fee. I really really would like us to bring in:-

1) a CF
2) A Neto-esque wide player who can beat a man
3) Eze

If signing Solanke at 60m (ish) precludes us doing either of the other 2, I’d be inclined to take either Toney or David instead (who I think are inferior but not by a mile) at lower feels to ensure we get the 3 new players in that I think we need.

Quality in wide areas and MF have been a priority over a CF for me…..

Happy with Solanke but my view of the transfer will ultimately be determined by the other pieces that follow. 👍
I think we're all in that boat mate, see where we are when the window shuts. At least the less volatile are there anyway.

Personally, I'm not seeing any reason why we can't get all 3, though I'd prefer Chiesa over Neto. It looks as though Solanke's release clause isn't a "pony it all up now" clause, so we can stagger those payments. Chiesa would be around £20M, but his wage demands are high, so give him a signing on fee first to keep the wages low. With Eze, take out a loan over 5 years and pay that back in installments. Job done, with the only real upfront payment, accountingwise, being Chiesa's signings payment.

Isn’t the fact that there are still over 3 weeks of the transfer window to go, a convincing rebuttal to your concerns?

If we’re here with 48 hours to go then I get it. But for now we’re still spinning plates and trying to do the right thing for the team. No one will care about these three weeks come January if we can get the best possible player in.

Is Solanke world-class? No. Is he on Kane's level? No. Is he the striker we would all sign if we could choose any striker? Obviously not. Is he potentially better than Richarlison up front? Yes. Does he have an all round game that should help improve us? Yes. Is he at an age where he can still get better? Yes.

We are playing in Europa league next season and our squad seems to be lighter than when we wasn't in Europe last year. Our squad don't look like it can compete in the premier let alone Europe also.
