Lads, what do we think is going on with Madders? Up until the Chelsea game last year he looked like a PL POY candidate.

Now he’s offering very little and really struggling to influence the game.

Is he just an incredibly patchy player? Did we rush him back too soon? I can’t fathom what’s going on.
Could be he's just still in poor form, but it's also possible he just can't be arsed with pre-season, and is mostly focusing on building fitness and avoiding an injury. I've noticed injury prone players usually take it easy in pre-season.

He’s a patchy player in games too. He’s class and will give the ball away because he won’t always play safe which I like but I know people will disagree but Bergvall looks like he’s got more in everything he does. I think he’s that good. He’s so good without the ball too. At home against against most teams I’d play both of them because we need as much game changers as possible against those types. Leicester away isn’t that game though so I’d imagine the midfield that started today will be the midfield against Leicester. I personally would go with Bentancur and Bergvall and show madders and Sarr that they need to be at it every game. It puts down a marker to every player in the squad that if you’re not at it then you don’t play.

Moore looks a year or so off the physical development needed, this season might be one too early to nail the role. The brain and skill looks great though.
Yeah likely he will get 20-30 mins in the EL with Werner given the start.

But he has so much more quality that Werner that I expect him to make an impact in those games and get goals and assists. Eventually it will be hard to keep him out.

vic is fine when he goes long. but yea he defo trys to do what hes been told too when he needs to use his initiative and just go long. theres times that you can tell its really not safe to play out and its just self harm.

udogie defo gave up the chance to pass to werner and tried to do it himself and it cost us what could of been a chance had he passed. if they are refusing to pass to him thats a big problem. by the way, udogie is hardly perfect! hangs on the ball too long for my liking.
I’m not the biggest Udogie fan because he’s a lazy defender and but when going forward he can attack the space more aggressively at times. There’s also times when he’s at it I don’t see anyone better in that position. Hopefully he can be more consistent and see more that Udogie.

Long, long season ahead.

I know it’s only pre season but this is against an elite team just before season start.

- Bergvall is immense both on and off the ball. Might be our best midfielder quickly.

- Bentancur offers much better composure.

- Sarr struggles against technical players, his passing needs to be better. For me Bentancur still ahead.

- Moore will be quality but needs to psychically grow.

- Gray is class on the ball but needs to accept he can’t beat 5 players as losing the ball deep is dangerous.

- Davies really struggles in this system. We need cover left back. to sell

- Spence isn’t a left back, fine on the right.

- we need a CF to play. Thankfully we now have Solanke.

- passing out from the back you need better ball players like Romero on the pitch.

- we still look vulnerable at set pieces.

- Johnson needs to up his game. Being invisible isn’t workable.

- Son, Bissouma, Maddison, Dragusin all hits at miss within the same game.

Bergvall the stand out winner.
Agree with everything except

I'm genuinely fascinated by the oh it's preseason "you remember that year we won all the games ..." It's not about the results it's about the patterns of play repeated mistakes and continuing issues that seem very much unchanged since seasons end. I'm actually worried about us not as yet fixing the 'broken windows' I'm also intrigued by aspects of who is coaching what. Has anyone seen Mason? Genuinely interested has his profile diminished .
I missed a decent portion of the second half. Did the defence start to defend properly? Like cohesively moving as a unit, being aggressive and pressuring their offensive players??

Frustrating game. We did some good things in the first half but defended like Keystone cops. We were so much better in the second half. The youngsters made a big difference.

I'm fucked if I know what team to put out against Leicester. Kids impressing pre-season gives a glimpse of how strong we can be in the near future but are they ready right now? I'm not so sure.

We do need to improve defensively, which includes midfield.

Solanke will, I think, be great for us but we still need a couple of new players, as others have pointed out.

Keeping hold of Richarlison as well as having Solanke might make a difference in a season where European games if we do well will make the league and domestic cups a slog.

We overrated him based on a nice 10 games that’s all. He’s fragile and quite timid, it seems like injuries really get into his head and affect his game.

When he’s worried about getting whacked he plays within himself which is death for any player. You have to be brave out there and doesn’t seem like he’s really got that in him.
