Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

He chased out pressing the ball, maybe by instruction from the manager, yet when we conceded we had 6 players in the box and we still left their player unmarked. Blaming Romero for that is crazy.

It's like Spurs fans just want to be miserable about everything. Romero is a class defender playing in a terrible defensive system. I watched a lot of Argentina in the Copa America and he looks unbelievable in their system because they're a solid defensive unit.

A truly great defender doesn't switch off or make the stupid errors he has so far this season. You cannot blame a "terrible defensive system" for two of the three goals we've conceded this season. Two of which you can quite easily blame Romero for.

I thought leaving Vardy unmarked was pretty embarrassing but the first goal today was shambolic from a player of his calibre.

He's shouldn't be exempt from criticsm just because he plays well at international level. If he has a poor game he should be called out for it. Especially when we know his ceiling.

I'm one of Romeros biggest defenders on here. But it's quite embarrassing the lengths people go to sucking off certain players because of their ability only to shit on others at the drop of a hat if they don't perform.

Because everything has a knock on effect

Romero went walkabout, Bissouma had to try and cover him, and it was Bissouma’s area that Barnes scored from

Stop trying to protect Romero, he was the reason we lost that match today, plain and simple

:ange-blow:Right, so....we're going to need Forster to reveal the news to Cuti about him being dropped for the next game mate, as if I'm revealing the news to him I'm the one who's going to get dropped.

How much time did he get off in the summer I wonder, he’s played a lot of football now after that period of injuries he had. Maybe the club should have given him a couple more weeks off, he hasn’t looked ready for the season. Problem now is he has two games for Argentina in the next week so will be off again.

Whats the betting he comes back having had 2 MOTM performances of them?
I think Romero is potentially a world class player, but his mistakes cost us - I'd seriously consider starting Dragu and VDV next game - competition for places is a good thing!

Tactics has all to do with this. He chases players like today's in most of Argentina's game and they barely concede, because they aren't as crazy as Ange is tactically, the line is deep and the midfielders can drop deep to help the defense. When you have the defense further up the pitch it's ovious we'll be more exposed.

Ange's tactics doesn't explain why Romero brain farts on multiple occasions for the Leicester equaliser.

1. Decides to rush across the box to the Leicester left wing even though Porro was covering the Leicester player

2. Gets back into the box - at which point he appears to be moving back into position to mark Leicester's goal threat, Vardy

3. But no, he decides to run straight past Vardy

4. And to top it all off, he is the one that plays Vardy onside

Fucking shambolic defending that has nothing to do with Ange's tactics.

Had he actually Marked Vardy he doesn't score and we win!
FFS Romero, sort it out please!!!!! Don't get me wrong I'm not blaming him for the loss, as we should have been way out of sight and this a mere consolation but he can't keep making mistakes like this at this level as they will always get punished!

I mean, Cuti is obvious class and when he is absent, it can be felt.
Him being current world champion and South-American champion at the same time is very impressing.

But claiming him to be "world best CB" after season when his side conceded 61 goals in the league is just not ... possible or logical, sorry. Yes- he was absent for quite a period and yes, team suffered overall injury crises. But I have never ever felt as comfortable with Romero as CB as I did when Toby and Jan were our CBs. And neither at the time were considered to be "best in the world".

So I think horses shall be held for now.
He could be called that in the future and he has incredible amount of talent. But right now I cannot just call him "best CB in the world" yet.

Ummm... maybe some middle ground now too???

No, he is not "the best CB in the world" as I said a month ago. And I still say I do not feel nearly as comfortable with him in the backline as I did with Toby and Jan.

Yes, he made bad mistake in Leicester game. And he was at least partly at fault yesterday too. But that does not mean he is a dogshit that needs to be sold/benched/killed.
Maybe let's have some middle ground after mistakes as well.

Not a world best CB but obviously very talented guy. Needs to learn from those moments.

The thing is had our Forwards done their job these mistakes wouldn't have even mattered, I think though if VDV is fit then the right call would be to try a Dragu and VDV pairing for the goons, I just get the feeling Ange sees Romero as one of the first names on the team sheet.

Romero is a class defender and yet you lot expect him to be some kid of shape shifter who can teleport himself around the pitch to do everyone else's job as well as his own.

For Barnes's goal there was a line of 6 Spurs players between Barnes and the goal as well as Vicario - and yet the TFC "Hangin' crew" have all decided that he is solely to blame. Good one. Barnes' strike was utterly brilliant for both power and accuracy and was almost impossible to stop.

For their second there were 3 Spurs defenders in distance of the 2 newcastle players - and Romero was adding weight to the pressure being put on their defence, to try to force a winner. Joelintons pass was spectacularly good - and there was feck all Romero could do about it.

I agree about the Leicester goal, he went ball chasing and left Vardy in a criminal amount of space

Maybe if some of you stopped trying to find a scapegoat in a desperate desire to see someone hung by the neck until sold, to appease your anger at us losing, and accept the fact that at this level there are players who can do things that actually beggar belief.

If you don't think I care enough - like you all do, then you should see the devastation I wrought onto the flower beds in my garden with a strimmer after the game. Wife distinctly unimpressed.

And for the hang Ange crew - look at the football we are playing, we are wrecking teams with this style of play, we just can't live with the people we are losing at crucial times. I'd rather watch this than the godawful eyesore football served up by Mourinho, Conte and Nuno

We should stick with Dutch and Belgian centre backs. VDV, Tobi and Jan have all delivered. They are not as erratic as Romero. Dragusin does look pretty solid though so why not bench Romero for him?

Says the guy that literally posted in 2 match threads (during the game) to inform everyone that a supporter from the stands is better than Brennan Johnson and how shit he is.

The funny thing is that was all you posted. Johnson I think then scored the winner in 1 of those games and you were never to be seen again.

Hypocrites are the absolute worst. "It's not good to scapegoat our players...well unless it's brennan Johnson..that's fine...but yeh don't scapegoat anyone".
