Player Cristian Romero

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Tactics has all to do with this. He chases players like today's in most of Argentina's game and they barely concede, because they aren't as crazy as Ange is tactically, the line is deep and the midfielders can drop deep to help the defense. When you have the defense further up the pitch it's ovious we'll be more exposed.
Rubbish!

You need to be disciplined positionally to be a centre back whatever system you play in, whether it’s park the bus or a high line!

How many other central defenders do you see chasing past their midfielders to try and press the ball?

Don't need even to be good, just not stupid to play our defensive line in the midfield. If you look to any team in the EPL you'll see they are better settled in defense than us and despite we arguably having one of the best back 4 in the League we can't fucking keep a clean sheet.
The system may be a problem but it also doesn't help having a guy like Romero who has shown that he's a liability. Guilty for all the goals we conceded this season? Perhaps.

Not perhaps, definitely. That’s not to put all responsibility for the dropped points on him but on the three goals we conceded:

- gets drawn towards the ball unnecessarily and leaves Vardy free to tap in
- charges out into midfield then jogs back as Newcastle take a quick throw and score
- caught standing still and ball-watching while the rest of the team drop off, leaving a huge channel for Murphy to receive the ball

He has got to do so much better, the team is not mature enough in attack to blow opponents away so he can’t afford to go to sleep even once.

weve got an absolute GEM here! must be made captain next year to show how valued he is. this is the exact character we need to take us out of spursyism.

if players cant look around and see him as a teammate and feed off his energy they wanna fuck off and stop wasting our time. get him the arm band ASAP. proper leader of men. however he will need actual men with him, pansies ducking out of duals and ducking headers aint going to work.

shows how much he rates the front line when hes asking midfielders to cover him so he can go and deal with it! get this guy some quality so he can do his actual job and not have to go and cover for incompetent shit up front. madrid will come knocking soon!
How quickly things can change.

You lot are clueless honestly. Guy has won a world cup and 2 copa americas. We lucky to have him.

The managers tactics is killing us. Not romero
I hate to say it because I love the guy, but arguably NONE of the two goals today or one against Leicester happen if not for desperately poor defending by Romero. That's not to say the blame rests exclusively on him (especially the first goal conceded today) but he was certainly a big factor.

Think you can point to reasons other than Romero as to why we've conceded each of the goals we have. He's a flawed player, also probably just about our best player.

Real winners don't mess up as much.
when you have your fullbacks pushing up to be attacking midfielders your CB's get exposed. youll never be happy with the Cb's in this system when the shit forwrds cant finish and we lose. its inevitable, they are the ones that are going to take the blame because they are badly exposed.

its funny how roy keane slaughters ten hags system today where he has his CB's facing counters where they are outnumbered because hs fullbacks are too high. yet when its spurs its nothing about the tactics and its romero.

porro and udogie are decent players, but they are not good enough to be so high and leave the two CB's exposed. this system is flawed at this level and decent sides will expose it.

He was fucking crap.

Clueless for the first goal. Not going to blame him toooo much for the second goal. Joelinton was allowed to play it through under pressure.

But he was off all game. Even his passing wasnt up to much.

He chased out pressing the ball, maybe by instruction from the manager, yet when we conceded we had 6 players in the box and we still left their player unmarked. Blaming Romero for that is crazy.

It's like Spurs fans just want to be miserable about everything. Romero is a class defender playing in a terrible defensive system. I watched a lot of Argentina in the Copa America and he looks unbelievable in their system because they're a solid defensive unit.
