Sorry mate, first of all they had a couple of players missing and still did not miss them.
Second, we did not reduce them to bus parkers.
They knew that we didn't have anything else to offer, and so they set up and waited for us to punch ourselves out, they exploited the weak areas.
The bloke on AFTV the day before said, exactly how they would set up, it's no secret the whole league has our number.
We can only play one way, if that doesn't work we are fucked.
The first 10 games of last season, there was a freedom in the way they were playing, now it's all about getting it down the wings and crosses into the box.
No variation, boring and predictable, if he can't sort it, which I suspect he can't, let's get someone in who can.
The team has better players than is being suggested, a better coach will extract more from them.

‘Getting crosses into the box’

Questionable

Especially decent ones that we bought Solanke for!

Woke up this morning still seething...

Three times in a fucking row they've dunked on us at our own ground, Even when we were utter shit in the Sugar years and they had the Invincibles we didn't let them do this.

If it was up to me they would have been sent out to run after the game and would still be running now. And that includes Ange and his coaching staff. Whoever is coaching corners would be collecting their P45's this morning.

In those first ten games last season there was a greater variety in the types of goals we were scoring too. Greater interplay between the front players and we were getting goals from everywhere, Romero bangers, Micky against Luton, Sonny hat-trick against Burnley, Madders from outside the box.

No we don't even have the ability to get in those positions because it's all shut down before we get to the 18 yard box.

Quite... Someone posted an Osimehn highlight reel here in response to this point last night; yet the vast majority of his goals in the vid game from crosses into a scantly populated box (i.e. born of quick decisive build up play) or him exploiting space (again; something we're not commonly creating).

.....Couple of nice 'drop, control then volleys' though.

.............But similarly there were some nice finishes in Doms highlight reel from last season too; similarly he was otherwise exploiting similar opportunities (crosses & space) too.

I understand that Chelsea are subsidising Sterlings salary. However they would not have done that for us.
They were forced to pay almost all of his salary, he's on 300k + and Chelsea are paying well over 200 of that and they received no loan fee.

You need to be able to be patient and play chicken if needed to get these type of deals, Woolwich had essentially walked away from negotiations earlier in the day when Chelsea suggested a small nominal loan fee and it was Chelsea who came back in later day....

He's right though.... Chelsea wouldn't have done that for us.

Ange in his presser was saying he treats this just like any other game. Legohead said its one of the biggest games of the season. Ange, mate, read the fucking room

Excellent post.

I really worry about a manager who doesn't get the rivalry with our neighbours, or at least doesn't appear to care.

Anyone associated with Tottenham Hotspur FC should fundamentally hate those cunts down the road from day one. Then do everything in their power to beat them every time we play them.

Mate he gets it. Aussie coaches say it all the time in big games. Meant to take pressure off his players.

It seems like every player we buy in that 50-70m pricerange is pissing money down the drain.

Imagine if we actually went out and bought a 85m+ player instead who was a dead cert instead of these weird middle-ground purchases. Would save ourselves a lot of money in the long run.
It’s not even that we could have got Barnes for less than Johnson. Richi for £60M I’m sure we could have found a much better CF , younger and for less. Same with solanke and Wilson.

Really? You think Johnson, Solanke, Kulusevski, Werner, Odobert, Son, Bentancur, Sarr, Maddison, Romero, VDV, Udogie, Porro are better than people think they are?

I think this team is massively overrated by many if they think 5th was under achieving last season or that we should be expecting to beat Woolwich no problem.

Personally, I think Ange’s methods ate getting much better performances out of this group of players than most coaches would be, and we are no longer watching turgid shit played entirely in our own box.

he's a lost cause if he thinks we controlled that.
Arteta was literally telling his players when to stop and when to start pressing because he knew there was no actual threat and he didn't want his players to get dragged out of position.
I guess he didn’t want to burn them trying to chase us down. Although they press in the first half more but 2 nd half dropped off more.

Booked the day off work today thinking I'd need it after a great day out at the football and smashing those insufferable twats.

Instead, I'm marching around the house in a foul mood with the hangover from hell, tidying shit up and wishing I hadn't bothered. Fuck my life.

I know many hate stats at the best of times, especially when we lose, but some of the underlying metrics we are posting this season really are impressive and suggest we are doing lots of things right, not just with, but without the ball too.

We’ve basically reduced Woolwich, a team who everyone expect to be title contenders, to a 90 minute bus park. Apart from dominating possession and territory obviously, We pressed harder, allowed much smaller PPDA (ie allowed them less passes per defensive action) and generally dominated the « without ball » proactive actions.

These are very good fundamentals. If we could add some quality footballers to those key attacking/creative remits - LF, RF, R8 - to turn the off ball work, possession and territorial advantage into better quality decisions and executions, those underlying metrics should stand us in good stead.

All the positive stats in the world don't mean shit if at the end of 90 minutes, the opposition has scored more than you.

Been ill with Covid all week. Just about starting to come out the other side and feel better. Could really do with a good game and result to cheer me up!

Week from absolute hell

Do you think villa, Newcastle or Brighton have much better players
I don't, they are better coached and or managed than we are.
