Management Ange Postecoglou

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Unfortunately it seems all managers we get are put in a position where they have to compromise. That begs the question why get uncompromising system managers then wonder why it doesn’t work if the tools are sub standard.

He might have to but it’s not ideal.
Yeah I think we can most of us agree that the problem stems at the rotten head! The illusion of positive change.

We need a pragmatist. In many ways Harry Redknapp was the perfect manager for Levy and ENIC, played good football and was always seemingly happy with whatever he was served up player wise. By and large picked a system to suit the players he had. Poch as well at least tried some left field things when left short like Dier as a DM. Basically under these shocking owners you cant have someone that tries to fit unsuitable personnel into their one system whether thats playing Emerson Royal as a wingback or Son and Johnson as touchline wingers.

We know the faults of our owners but i have no idea whats happened to management in general these days. Surely its common sense to adapt to what you have not what you wish you had?

We beat UTD and Liverpool last year. We drew at woolwich and City and could have beat City at home too.
Yes

But this year feels like we won't is my point

You're not going into games feeling were going to score at the moment.

It feels like we need a drastic upchangebin fortunes as it went give the appearance of control, but we can't get the ball in the back of the net - and will always give up a goal.

really? but we've scored in every game apart from one, and i'll bet steak dinners we'll score on sunday too

Football has changed. It’s all about plan A perfection, that seems to be where victory comes from. Pep, Klopp they might make adjustments but they don’t bend much else. At least that is what elite clubs do, you do have exceptions like Ancelotti at Real with his world class team but mostly elite sides are all structured hard. We seem to want to be an elite team like this but then dont buy for it.

I've seen Haaland and Salah score many times from route one pumps. Pep and Klopp predominantly play with this intricate passing gameplay where dominance is converted into goals, but I've also seem it smashed forward when they are in need.

I saw Dragusin try that one or twice last night but the balls were shit. We miss Toby.

Gray and Davies would be the back ups, still leaves 1 short. The LCB and RCB play more like defensive full backs in a back 3, it’s the CCB that has to be an out and out stopper so that might make Dragusin the most vulnerable player, Gray will cover Romero, Davies cover VDV in defensive roles, the stopper is the exposed position.

Yeah we’d still be a CB short and that’s using Gray at CB more that we’d planned for. He’s never played a competitive game there in his life.

So really we’d still have 3 very strong options for 3 positions.

Right now our main CB rotation is 3 very strong options for 2 positions.

I
I'd love to see this but with Bentancur swapped for Bergvall or Deki (game dependent). Roddy's looked pretty horrible out there imo and a ban looming.

Johnson seems much more suited to a central role too so could rotate with the front two.

I personally can't see much changing with how we perform with the current squad. We don't have the tools to fit the system, so tweak the system to suit the tools. Is that a compromise a resolute Ange is willing to make?
Based on his comments post match, no

We hung in there vs Coventry, and played our football

So we should sign another CB in Jan. assuming Philips is yet another club buy that won’t make it? Maybe should have kept Emerson?

Feels like that right now maybe but football changes fast. Feelings and form change in the space of one game, even one moment in a game.

The things that cause that change are rarely drastic diversions. Often it’s a goal going in of astrikers arse or an opponent missing/scoring a key chance.

Don’t hire the right coach for it either.

Issue you have is we have a bunch of wingers not suited to what we need so whatever system you choose we have no cover. 3-5-2 at least your strongest team is actual very strong unlike 4-3-3 where we have no 1 v 1 winger specialists.

Vicario
Romero Dragusin VDV
Porro Kulusevski Bissouma Maddison Udogie
Son Solanke

Above team would give anyone a game if setup right.

He did explain that unless you do 19 games or 38 it is Cherry picking because it’s a stretch that doesn’t include every team in the league.

Seemed a pretty rational and logical explanation to me.
Spin it all you like mate

The fact is that over a sizable chunk of matches , we have accumulated just 6 points more than perpetual whipping boys/laughing stock Everton and just two more points than a David Moyes managed West Ham

It's grim viewing. Would you not say that 32 matches could be considered a trend ?

And then we get months into playing 3 atb and everyone is claiming it’s rigid and the manager isn’t flexible again. Like under Conte.

Or…. We could have the fortitude and conviction to stick the plan, even though it has challenges right now. And then once the foundation of the team is more stable, we can start building tactical variety and flexibility into things.

Ange has played 3 ATB before and he mixed it up a couple times towards the end of the season last year. He also tweaked things to have the #6 drop into the back 2 more etc
