Match Brighton & Hove Albion vs Tottenham Hotspur - Sunday 6th October - 16:30KO

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It is fair that he is leading on season average ratings, but I am not sure how Van der Ven gets a higher rating than Bentancur, Romero and Werner for this game. They were all better than him on the day.

I don't see a great deal of improvement over Dier, Emerson, Sanchez and Davies as a possible back four to be honest. We are certainly not as a unit streets ahead are we?

Two up away from home to a good side and we implode in less than forty five minutes.

How many unanswered goals do we need to score to be sure of a win, three, four?

Never sustainable, never going to happen.

Lot's of fans glowing after beating a piss poor United side, and two pub teams from the outskirts of Europe.

We are in the Europa League for one reason, we are not good enough to play at the top table of football.

Ange was out witted by a manager half his age, tactically more aware and with a change of plan. I mean you don't bring on Sarr and Bissouma to help win a game of football. Those pair come on to shore up a two goal lead.
Defending requires discipline but also - there’s that old adage - you defend as a unit, which you’ve described above.

I can only think of two back lines that I had confidence in at Spurs…

Walker - King - Woodgate/Dawson - Assou-Ekotto

Parker screening

And

Walker - Alderweireld - Vertonghen - Rose

Dembele screening.

Not everyone will agree with the above, but we have rarely been renowned for good defending in my time as a Spurs fan.

I felt those back 4s, particularly the latter knew what their jobs were. Funnily enough, Walker is in both.

At the moment, despite what could be said that is good about our back 4, there is a lack of discipline and attention and togetherness at times and we really do get punished when that happens.

Flip the switch.
Alternate scenario...

On the back of 5 games without a win, WE go in at half-time, 0-2 down at home to Brighton (or any team for that matter) who have just won 5 on the spin...

We'd have gone in to a chorus of boos....

Do WE come out all guns blazing 2nd half, and turn it around for a 3-2 win... or surrender meekly, accept our fate, and it ends up 3 or 4-0..?

The mentality Brighton had to think it WASN'T over was admirable... Despite both teams' recent form...

I just don't think we have those type of guts about us...
Either for OR against!

Yesterday was as shocking as it was telling.

I don’t know, we have a pretty good record coming from behind. That makes it even more galling that we weren’t ready for Brighton to make a comeback.

Still bloody seething.

Same here. Didn’t post in the aftermath because i should be conditioned to it by now but that was inexcusable.

First half demonstrated why we ‘could’ compete at the top of the league.
Second half demonstrated why we could end up in the bottom half.

The players are off today, jetting all over the world, which leaves us picking out the bones of this for 2 weeks. Gutless pricks.

Fuck knows where we go from here? More of the same I’d guess before something gives. The team lacks leaders on the pitch. And it appears in the dugout too. Teams know how and when to play against us. The post match interviews were revealing - essentially, “tactics went out of the window - we had to fight”. Wonder what was said in ours..,,

Destiny got absolutely cooked. Worst game I have seen from him in a Spurs shirt.
Romero you should be ashamed. How many times did you lunge at the ball and completely fuck the rest of your teammates.
Ange...you got outclassed mate
Why do isn’t Ange put on Spence I really don’t get it. He has played well when he’s come on but Yorkshire ignored him. Real head scratcher especially considering destiny had an injury before this game.

At half time we looked like we would be 1 point of 4th... Disappointing result but Brighton are a good team and had a full weeks rest and preparation.
They had 6 players out, their two best players missing, drew at home to forest and Ipswich and have 31 yr in charge who out smarted Ange. Who likes to the billy big bollocks but when it really matters he fluffs it. Shows no bottle in bringing players off. Subs should have been made at 2-1 but straight After the 3rd cuti, destiny, bent, Werner should have all come off. Show them he ain’t taking shit performances and that we have other players in the bench ready to take their place.

Spot on. I struggled to understand that. Taking Madders off when we needed to attack and hold the ball was also bemusing.

I’d love him to succeed at our club. I fear he won’t.

Because most people aren't objective in rating players. They find little anti-pet players who "should GTFO of my football club", and every bad result is due to that/those player(s).

To wit, a number of people blame that result on Timo not scoring/assisting when the reality is all we had to do is not concede 3 goals in 45 minutes of football...a pretty simple brief. But Timo is just the new Johnson/Kulu. People have been trying for 14 months to blame our leaky defense on the attackers.

If our attackers would just score 5 goals every match it wouldn't matter that our defenders can't defend and we haven't had consecutive clean sheets in the league in over 2 years.

If we're talking about FBRef/WhoScored, the fact that him, Romero, and Vicario cycle the ball between themselves about 100 times throws off the stat ratings.

After having time to reflect.
I'm still angry at Ange, he looked bemused, he wasnt barking instructions and was not motivating players from the touchline.
Secondly, we have no ruthless leader who can lift players when times are difficult.
Its going to be a roller coaster season and we're gonna have to get used to it.
Onwards and Upwards

I think Ange could have done something far quicker to try and stem the flow, particularly to stop the ransacking that was going on down Porro's side and get the poor lad some help, and shake the team up, but individuals were the main problem there.

Romero, VDV, Udogie individually all had car-crash second halves.

Bentancur just about got away with it first half, but went full slug mode second half.

Kulu and Maddison showed why, ultimately, in a team that wants to do anything they are only ever squad players. You simply can't go from Prem to Conference standard within a 90 mins and when you're on the back foot. They're too erratic and too up and down.

Timmy fucking Werner.....

It's alright having a couple of inconsistent players, who'll do it in flashes and might not do it every week, if you've got the rest of the side who do bring it every week and have a level they reach consistently. Problem is the vast majority of ours are absurdly up and down - week to week, even first half to second half.
Through in Johnson who ok has scored 6 on the trot but we did he do rest of the game. 2nd he disappeared, offered no out ball or threat, never helped porro.

We would have been 1-0 up in 2 minutes if timo had been able to play a simple ball to Brennan.

He also can’t score anything ever. He just shouldn’t be starting matches for a serious team and we have levy /Enic to thank for him.

He’s not solely at fault for yesterday but he definitely didn’t help.

Still fuming 24 hours later . I've followed Spurs for a very long time and can remember some calamitous second half performances . Man Utd after leading 3-0 at half time and losing 5-3 ! Losing 4-3 to ten man Man City in the league Cup to mention a few .

But yesterday's absolute collapse after such a promising first forty five was just too much to take and left me bewildered and very angry .

The players just couldn't handle the pressure and seemed to lose every individual battle and that is totally unacceptable .

Ange has got some sorting out to do because the first game back after the International break is the Spammers and we all know they will be well up for a battle .

We all know following our beloved Spurs is never straight forward , but yesterday was very difficult to watch and we've just got to hope things improve . It just has to

One thing I can't fathom is making conservative subs at the 80min mark when the game's out of reach and we need a goal.....

Expecting Biss at 79mins to change the game when 3-2 down when the oppo has already banked down in a 442 is baffling, but then merely swapping Madz for Moore with 5mins to go is just weak. Ange gets constantly ragged on for being gung-ho; but where is the bravery in that scenario? .......That's some dismal Conte type shit!

..........Take a defender off and try to rescue a point FFS!

Please, someone offer up a tactical theory....... Just something even half plausible to restore a little faith.
Said it before in game and even starting 11 he is not brave enough.

Was too angry grumpy to come in and post after the match.
Still am.

One thing that stood out to me is the American TV broadcast (Robbie Earle on NBC) was pointing out that we're "too nice" on the field. Where have we heard that one before?

No they didn’t do what Ange wants.

Ange’s whole philosophy is “we never stop”. He wants them to keep scoring even when they’re convincingly ahead.

What he doesn’t want them to do, is to come back after half time, stick their feet up and light a cigarette and consider the job done
Ok so if that is what he wants he has eyes right. Surely he could see they weren’t doing what he wanted! He should barked out instructions, called players over if he wanted to make any tactical changes and finally he could have made subs.
