Manager The Sack Race

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Seems like a decent coach, who’s methods have over achieved his team into getting into the PL, but the squad are simply not good enough for the PL, and probably wouldn’t be whatever approach they took.

Yeah, commendable.

Its why I don't really understand people who say teams like Southampton or even Burnley last season should try and change what they know when they get promoted. Sure, it might make them somewhat better defensively (no guarantees) and they may make less mistakes passing out from the back but the other way is a recipe for losing the ball (knocking it longer) and inviting pressure (sitting back). There's no right way or formula to staying up outside of having better squad depth capable in this league and pure luck.

The likelihood is, they'd go down regardless of what way they played. Maybe concede a few less, maybe even hold out for a point or two extra but they are where they are for a reason.

Have SAints spent any money on players? If not, then the sensible thing would be to stick with a guy who got you back up at the first attempt playing attractive footie and getting the fans back on board.

Rather than sack the manager, why not buy a striker in January?

They create loads of chances, just don;t score from enough of them.

They were better than Ipswich last season and looked to have the better of their game recently. ITFC equaliser in the last seconds and a deflected "worldie"

They brought in around 8 new players in the summer with Taylor Harwood-Bellis from Man C costing 20 mil & Flynn Downes from W Ham for 18 mil and Cameron Archer from Villa for 13 mill.
They also bought in striker Ben Bremerton-Diaz from Villarreal for around 8 mil
The problem is that finding Premier League quality strikers require lots of money or lots of luck . Southampton, like most smaller clubs are up against FFP so lots of money doesn't work & they are hoping that Brereton Diaz can find the form he showed for Blackburn ( 45 goals in 144 games )
The fans want Russel Martin to give up on his possession based play out from the back style & be a little more defensive minded .... Shades of Burnley last season !!!
