Player Timo Werner

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Echo what everyone has said. He was really good. Pace looked a real weapon as we were forced to play on the counter a bit more. Movement was great
That dink over the top he ran onto from in our own half was especially impressive- he was carrying the ball and going faster than 4 other defenders without the ball- that's blinding pace right there.

Timo can be a very dangerous runner and wide outlet for us if he can only catch a spark, and after his goal tonight, and his confidence returning, he very may well have caught it tonight.

Problem with Johnson is that he doesn't create enough chances. Werner even with his goal flaws is pretty decent at crossing and making spaces. Johnson is just a tunnel vision bulldozer. He just needs to learn how to play "better". He has all the physical gifts needed to do so.

Werner reminds me of Bergwijn, they both excel at breaking the lines but lack an end product.

Werner played very well tonight, he took his goal well, was unlucky with the one on one but also had his standard other poor finishes and misplaced passes. You can’t knock his effort though.

What compounds Werner’s flaws and it’s not directly his fault is the lack of quality across the front 3. They all tend to drift in and out of games and lack a clinical killer instinct so when Werner misses most his chances he’s the one that stands out as ‘should have done better’.

He took his first goal well but I admit the other finishes are still hard to watch, only in terms of being a super high income professional footballer that specialises in being a forward. I'd get it if my mate Johnny missed them playing 7-a-side.

Might be an unpopular opinion but feel Timo provides more to the team than BJ. Johnson is leagues above Timo in terms of finishing but how many chances and opportunities come from the left rather than the right when he’s playing. He also tracks back better and generally puts in a better shift. Timo is more involved whereas if BJ isn’t scoring, he’s more of a passenger and goes a miss in a lot of games. His finishing is laughable though

Not unpopular at all. It's true.

Werner never hides from the ball and is quick to close down the opposition. Contrast that to Johnson who just ambles up to the other team. He has zero aggression in or out of possession while at least Timo does even if it might not be the highest quality.

Ok, let’s not get carried away with one goal.
He’s still a liability..he should not be at the club. Still needs to be binned.

I’m sensing one more goal and it’ll be the usual flakes saying we need to keep him, he’s finding his confidence, he’ll come good etc..

was probably helped by having to react quick to the cross yesterday as the defender wasnt a million miles away. looks like one of them players that struggles with the more time he has as he overthinks.

werner could hv had 3 or 4 goals but only converted 1. :dude:
You could say that about Man City... From their goal onwards they actually played well... We didn't beat a 2nd string team of kids... The majority of their players were more than half decent and would get into most PL sides!

Yes yes... But the goal he DID score was a fucking corker!!

Both nowhere near the required level

It’s crazy how timo and Brennan are just polar opposites. One can really only finish and is basically only useful in the attacking third. The other is only useful outside of the attacking third . Put them together and you’d have a world class player. But instead we’ve got 2 squad players.

If you marry the two up you'll get a player called Timo Johnson and he'd be playing for Real Madrid.

It was a good finish, can't grumble with that.
Afterwards he had one tame shot, but then his other attempts he put his foot through them. Hopefully he can keep that up.
He deserves some goals he hasn't stopped trying, he isn't hiding away, the guy is constantly getting 3+ chances a game, if he can recapture even a third of his Leizpig form he will be a big asset. With Odobert and Son out, we are relying on him as the experienced head on the LW at this current time.

A player who works as hard as Werner will always earn my respect. Udogie, Porro, Johnson and others get way more plaudits and leeway than he does, when none of them have even half his work ethic.

Maybe it's another Kulu situation. Was never suited to playing RW in a team like Spurs and generally in the fast-paced PL. Moved him centrally and it's night & day. Perhaps we could use Timo elsewhere on the pitch, where his lack of killer instinct would hurt us less. Not trying to pretend I'm a visionary, but right now I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him start ahead of Udogie at LWB, for instance.

Ze german can run, dribble, pass, cross and yup, he works tirelessly. What's Udogie done of late? Next to zilch. He's crazy overrated. And Timo wouldn't be the first attacking player in the history of the game to transition into a defender. Many before him done it successfully.
