Player Timo Werner

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

A player who works as hard as Werner will always earn my respect. Udogie, Porro, Johnson and others get way more plaudits and leeway than he does, when none of them have even half his work ethic.

Maybe it's another Kulu situation. Was never suited to playing RW in a team like Spurs and generally in the fast-paced PL. Moved him centrally and it's night & day. Perhaps we could use Timo elsewhere on the pitch, where his lack of killer instinct would hurt us less. Not trying to pretend I'm a visionary, but right now I wouldn't be opposed to seeing him start ahead of Udogie at LWB, for instance.

Ze german can run, dribble, pass, cross and yup, he works tirelessly. What's Udogie done of late? Next to zilch. He's crazy overrated. And Timo wouldn't be the first attacking player in the history of the game to transition into a defender. Many before him done it successfully.
Hmm fantasy football is lovely in theory but I think you’re hoping for a lot. Left wing-back? He’s a front 3 player always has been. I don’t see him transitioning to anything else at his age.

Are you drunk?? You are definitely on the wind up.
If not you are brain dead when it comes to football.

I think you are onto something.

Maybe try putting timo in goal as he is very good at keeping the ball out of the net.

Think he played pretty well, guy worked his nuts off, unlucky not to score a brace.

His finishing is shit but he does have his uses.
I don’t if this is happening in training, but I’d have him doing finishing drill after finishing drill until it becomes muscle memory.

His finish last night reminded me of the type of goal we saw him score regularly for RBL.

If only we could unlock his finishing, he’d be a hell of a weapon with that pace.

I was one of the first on here saying Kulu was a born CM, ways before Ange moved him there. I was mocked, given plenty Xs and stuff. What happened uh pumpkin? Back in the day also said we should play Rose at LB and Dembele was no forward but a beast CM.

Not saying Timo moving to LB would be a guaranteed success, course I ain't. Heck, I've been wrong far more often than I been right. But I'm saying there's precedents. And how many times has he played upfront only to disappoint? If we're gonna keep him til summer and on that mad wage, may as well try and see if he wouldn't fare better elsewhere on the pitch. Isn't that part of Ange's job after all?

But you keep doing you ie bashing people giving their opinions on a footy forum (without you adding anything to the convo), and I'll keep doing me even if I get called foolish by the likes of you.

For your info, though...I used to get paid to play the game and maybe it was cause of my pretty face or more likely pity, but some decent institutions also granted me my coaching badges. But yeah I know dick about football.

That’s it, you fight your corner pal. Don’t back down. Quitters never win, winners never quit.
Timo for left wing-back.. get it trending.

:sonpoint:

Well mate I’ve played pro for 24 years and got all my coaching badges and I know for a fact Timo can’t play left back.

Fair play to you on deki, moussa and rose 👍

Definitely Timo's best performance for Spurs. Hopefully the goal gives him confidence now to kick on. His pace is electric. That 1v1 he missed would have been some goal when ya see where he took the ball on, such a shame he didn't bury it

There's no shot Timo has the physical attributes required to be a full back in the prem, his upper body strength will see him come off 2nd best in most duels when defending and I think a big part of his problems in front of goal are his ability to act under pressure rather than his finishing itself, with our fullbacks expected to invert youre asking a player who primarily excels at taking on his man and attacking the space in behind before putting a ball across the box, he doesn't have the vision or ball control to operate in tight spaces centrally.

At the very best he could possibly do a job as a LWB in a back 5, but this is not like Rose converting to LB in a back 4, Rose played a completely different role on the wing when employed further forward in a much different era of football tactics, where fullbacks and the winger in front of them had to have a much better understanding of and with each other to make sure they didn't leave each other isolated. Werner came through when 4-2-3-1 with inverted wingers was basically a default tactic across the whole of European football, in that system the wide forwards operate much more independently of their full back and aren't expected to provide much, if any, defensive support. It's apples and Oranges really.

One good thing Werner has is energy. And he is pretty good at crosses, passes and finding people. Personally, I'd like to see him play alongside Son. I think him and Son have a similar kind of energy. And Son might help him out with scoring. I also happen to think that Son should play in the striker position. Have a free, central position in the attack. I would, therefore, use Solanke as a back-up striker or reinforcement. I would like to see something like this up front:

Johnson - Kulusevski - Werner
- - - - - - - - - - Son - - - - - - - - -

And then Solanke could come on in the second half to face a tired defense and he could take up the central striking position with Son being strategically re-placed on the left or on the right depending on his health, the game in question, and the form of others like Werner etc.
