Jesus fucking Christ!! We have won so many games convincingly but you can’t see that as a positive.
Against Leicester and Newcastle we should have been out of sight. Huffed and puffed against Woolwich. Utter shit against Palace. We went from brilliant to horrendous against Brighton but it’s only in the Palace game where we were completely devoid of ideas.

It's ridiculous isn't it?

Last season we were being lambasted for not putting "lesser" teams to the sword. Now we are doing it, it's only because they are "lesser" teams.

It's gotten to high end trolling now, and puts "agenda" up in Neon lights for this particular poster.

The only reason anyone notices him is 'cos the prick is constantly negative anyway, he has fuck all else to say....🤷‍♂️

Portsmouth?
Terrible day. My dad fell ill, lots of drama, didn't get to watch it on TV so recorded it. Managed to finally watch it "live" at about 9pm and watched the whole 120 minutes. Should have been an easy win and first FA Cup final since I was 10. But noooo.

Context ffs.
The guy I replied to pointed out how good our goal difference is. But it's been padded out by a selection of easy games. Villa is the only convincing win we have had all season against a good side. The rest are against fodder. You can't use PPG or GD after 10 games, especially when we have so far only played 2 teams that sit above us and lost 1 of them.
It's all about context.

The Worse one for me was Portsmouth in 2010.A squad consisting of bale,modric crouch Defoe etc but still contrived to lose.Our players completely bottled it🤦‍♂️

They'd just been relegated.
We had ex portsmouth manager Redknapp, ex Portsmouth players Defoe and Crouch, and we got beat by Avram Grant and a shootout penalty by Kevin Prince fcucking Boateng.
Couldn't make it up.

Your thinking here in this post makes a lot of sense because: 1. The sample is indeed small, and 2. Different teams have different schedules at the beginning of the season (some teams face stronger opposition early on, others later on, and for some teams that stuff is balanced out). So that yes GD early in the season is always a result of who Spurs have played.

You have raised very valid questions: Has Tottenham so far had much easier schedule compared to its most pertinent and important rivals? Or not? Which among those teams around Spurs has had the easiest schedule? And which has had the hardest?

Yeah. Under Ramos we sold Defoe to Portsmouth in January 2008. Ramos was sacked and replaced with Redknapp who then re-signed him back in January 2009.
We also sold them Kaboul who Redknapp brought back January 2010
And of course, not Pompey related, but under Ramos we sold Keane to Liverpool and he too came back. Although I wasn't a fan of that one, I felt he was done before we sold him and that £20m was good business even if it sucked the way he went.
 


And looking at the full table it still remains very much the case that Tottenham's goal difference stands out. In terms of the goal difference Spurs appear to be competing with other top 4 teams. And if this remains so then it will probably be very likely that Ange will get the club into the top 4. But of course, and needless to say, it will be hard for that to remain so.

Your original assertion is correct, if you have healthy goal difference it normally means you're getting it more right than wrong, the games we lost are all by 1 goal, the games we've won is by 2 or more.

Compare that to Villa who are +2, suggests that their matches are much more tighter and that isn't sustainable throughout the season if you want to get into top 4 because the jeopardy of winning is too high, you risk losing dropping points in tight games.

Sample size is way too small anyway, anyone can look at the league table and draw their own conclusions but I'm feeling positive because we've played well in pretty much the majority of our matches and we've lost due to stupid errors that can be ironed out.
 
Our goal difference is good for now but what we have that top sides generally don't have, is the capability of concededing 3 or 4 goals in a half.

We have suffered some massive bukakes over the past few years.
 
One change I really like, is that we have low key become more pragmatic this season. Its not very obvious because we still take chances playing out from the back, dominate the ball and throw bodies forward but there is some very noticeble tweaks. The fullbacks seem more disciplined (Still bomb forward but not to the same level, both often hold the width rather than inverting and tend to get back alot quicker during transitions) and whoever starts out of Bentancur/Bissouma is sitting in the 6 and holding their position (last year they were going walk abouts too!). Ange is moving to the next stage. Last year was just blowing off the cobwebs and becoming the most attacking team in the league. I feel like we have moved into phase 2 now and are looking at both ends of the pitch. The xG conceded number shows the dramatic improvements we have made defensively. Ironically enough, most our goals conceded have come from individual mistakes by Romero, VDV and Udogie. Ironically, Dragusin and Davies are so much more defense minded and switched on that there is less of these careless errors when they are playing. Exciting times!
