I will be watching with the freedom that the result is somewhat irrelevant.

Yes the higher you finish the easier the draw - but come the last 8 I expect in there with us will be the likes of United (under Amorim now) Porto, Lazio, Frankfurt, Bilbao, Sociedad, Ajax - the difference in quality between those sides is comparable to a gnats pube

They did Monte Carlo simulation on the new format before it began - 10 points guarantees qualification and 16 was enough for top 8 97% of the time.

After AZ, Opta had our chances of progression at 99% and top 8 at 74% - I think they also factor in strength of remaining opposition.

I’m not a stats wanker, but we are as good as through despite what the doom mongers say
