Its the most frustrating season I can remember. But, the reason its so frustrating is because we know how good we can be and we really should be at least 3rd in the league right now. Just feels like a massive opportunity missed.

I do believe we are going in the right direction but my god the journey is bumpy. Very hard to stay calm and keep the emotions in check.
Not with this defence!

IF we had a decent defense(or a working defensive system) we most certainly would have been top 3.

Almost 5 years since Poch was sacked. He had less points after 10 games, but his only losses were Vs better teams than Ipswich and Palace. And he had overseen a Champions League final a few months before so had charity in the bank.
14 pts from 12 games when sacked. I mean with City next so likely 16 pts from 12 games. Similar and Poch had a ton of credit in the bank and a much tougher start.

Again i just cant make it make sense. Only things i can think of is a) He doesnt have the first clue what to do with a replacement b) He's waiting for this investment so he can hide a sacking behind that or c) The crowd havent fully turned yet so why make a payout before the abuse lands at his door

Exactly!

We don't have a pressing need to strenghten the attacking positions.

What is extremely pressing tho, are our defensive positions!

We need a new GK, RB, LB, CB, and a DMC!

And it would be a very welcomed if some of those signings were real leaders on the pitch. And why not world class, we should be able to afford it.

If we still had a player like Defoe, who had scored 20 goals in a season, but 15 were against Everton, West Ham, Brentford, a broken Man United etc, then you'd all say he was a "flat track bully" who "pads his stats vs smaller sides"

That is exactly what has happened this season, but at a team level.
A few large wins against mostly shite teams has left us in a current league position that looks ok. 3 points off 3rd with a good GD.
But we haven't done anything of note to anyone of note. Villa maybe, but they seem to be in free fall themselves. Won 1 of their last 6 league games. they have been pretty poor through all of October and Nov

This opportunity missed with 3rd shite needs to stop mate. We are never in a million years fighting for top 3/4 under Ange, if we had won yesterday it would have just been a temporary false position. Just like Forest won't finish the season fighting for top 4. The last 49 games quite clearly suggest that we will be finishing around 10th to 12th unless there is a huge upturn in results, and who honestly thinks that is coming?

It's all smoke and mirrors from the Ange in people to make it sound like we are actually on the verge of something, we aren't. And days like yesterday just show that even more.

I don't see how we can be going in the right direction either, considering the trajectory is quite clear we are getting worse under Ange the longer he has been here, not better.

My prediction based on the next 6 fixtures is he will be sacked by Xmas. I can't see more than 3 or 4 points, maybe 6 absolute maximum and that will be by beating Fulham at home and Southampton away, and that is being optimistic. I could easily see us getting turned over at Southampton and Fulham doing a number on us at home. Will be practically half the season gone and we will be on circa 22 points, shocking.
I don't know how you can be so certain that we are going to lose all these games.

I haven't seen us get played off the park this season so I'm not expecting City or Liverpool to just hammer us. If they do then yes, this project is going nowhere and maybe its time for change. But all that has to happen first. Under Conte and Mourinho we looked absolutely hopeless towards the end. We were played off the park every week. This has not happened so far this season, hence why I still think Ange can turn it around. I'll need to see City or Liverpool batter us for me to change my mind. I'm not there yet

People here saying we need X, or Y to make his system work.

Ask yourself this. Could you imagine him going to City, Liverpool, Arse, Chelsea, Newcastle, Villa or Brighton and even managing to keep them at the level they are at?

Seriously. You all seem to think we have a poor squad and he needs backing, well, those teams are all above us so must, by your own logic, have better squads.
So would he be able to maintain or improve any of them?

Weirdly, at times the team has looked good maybe even very good, and then when it's bad it's the worst I have seen for years.
I have heard lack of quality is an issue but, in reality the team should be able to beat palace and Ipswich.
Tactics are a joke at times along with the defending, I expect the club to stick with him, probably because who else is out there.
He won't bring any success or super football to us, but as long as it doesn't get any worse they will stay with him.

Apart from City/Liverpool out in front, there is only 3 points separating us and everyone above us so lets relax a little banging on about the league table in november.

Woolwich and Newcastle schooled us. They let us us have the ball and picked us off with the chances they knew they'd get.
Brighton blew us away in the 2nd half. It was shocking.
Palace beat us up.
Ipswich could have won by more.
The performance against Galatasary, which I won't get too hung up on due to the starting 11, was the worst I have ever seen. Genuinely should have been 6 or 7 by HT.
But you haven't seen us get played off the park?

We'd be boring as fuck, but there'd be no drama.
Probably just able about to coach this lot to 5th or 6th. Will beat all the teams we are expected to beat. Will lose all the games against technically good sides.
Some fans would be happier with 12th and more "exciting" football. Like yesterday was somehow exciting.

I doubt anyone would claim the games like yesterday and Palace were exciting.

But to play devil's advocate, in your previous post you seem to suggest we should have ambitions to finish in the top six, because we will never win the league. And while I get what you're saying there, I can't help but think if we accept being 5th or 6th in the league is our ceiling, then actually is it a disaster if we finish 8th. Not really. Feels like a slide towards apathy.

Maybe it's stupid but I'm still hoping we build a team that can compete for the league title. And 5th place finishes (instead of 8th) don't excite me at all. Although I'll concede I want Spurs to be playing in Europe, but domestically it doesn't seem much different.

How many more times?
That gap is about to get very wide very quickly when we have a run of very awkward looking games to come.
It's a false position. It's not real. The other teams, who have had a hard run will now have easier games. And we, who have had a very easy run will now hit a wall.
If we were any good we wouldn't be talking about being only 3 points behind 3rd, we'd have taken advantage of everyone elses run and be at least 3rd right now.

I didn't mean we should aim to finish 5th or 6th.
I said in the top 5 or 6. 6th being the worst we should allow. Anything less than that is not good enough for any manager.

I don't know seriously!

Either we have shit defenders, OR it's Ange's system that makes them look extremely shit.

Right now i'm leaning towards the "defenders are shit" theory.

I think its a mix of poor defenders and not having enough in front of them defensivley so getting exposed. When he thickened up the midfield 2nd half against City we looked a lot more solid. Granted against a weak City team.

He proved in that game that he can adapt I don't personally buy the lazy media style rhetoric some on here are peddling that it's all all gung ho kamikaze stuff all the time.

At last. Someone talking can sense. Every single thing you have said is spot on.

A lot on here need to take note.

To my eyes, most of the problems we have are because the players are not remotely drilled first and foremost.
The far post is always wide open. Both sides. The FB's are told to invert to make up numbers in the middle, but a good diagonal always seems to find 1 or even 2 players in acres of space.
When the oppo do attack us, there seems to be panic and chaos. Players are all looking at one another as they don't know where anyone is. The ball pings around in the box. The keeper spills everything.
It looks a lot like a unit that doesn't do drills, doesn't practice anything in particular and doesn't prepare for what is about to come.

Compare that to the opposite side of the coin, everyone we play against seem to have a plan against us. Without fail, every single team will box the keeper in from corners. Do they do that to other teams? No, because other teams don't have that glaring weakness that never gets better. The best solution we have had so far is to put a feeble player like Johnson or Maddison on their blockers, who obviously fail to stop the block.
We seem to have a very 1 dimensional attack at times too, cross low from either wing. The furth wide we get pushed the less of those that we get in. Conversely, ushering players into the middle and by defending the width of the box just makes us pass back to the keeper half the time.

Lets see how things go after these awkward games so! Your predicting us losing all these games and ending up down the table. If/when that happens, then the discussion is different. But it hasn't happened and we might do well in these awkward fixtures.

This club needs a rebuild. We all agree on that atleast.

But it appears that most fans can't handle the reality of a rebuild and what it includes. We are in the process of one and we are more unpredictable than ever. Just chill out. Let the season unravel and judge Ange in May. Sacking him and starting again doesn't work.
