ENIC In or ENIC Out

Our best chance of an EL trophy would be a morale boosting appointment conveniently as the knockouts start, preferably somebody who is tactically sound of mind and has experience navigating cup competitions. In other words, our best chance was Tuchel.
Wouldn't argue against it.

What about Allegri?

An admittedly juvenile part of me would love the bantz of appointing Van Nistlerooy before the United match.

I also don't know that I would consider ETH "finished" - United just can't accept their place in football post-Ferguson. He's used to working in an environment similar to ENIC now, and at least won a trophy doing it.

Grasping at straws the manager market is kinda shit right now. But I also had no clue who Slot was until we were linked.

League Cup is a trophy but comes with 0 additional benefit, and is not even the most important domestic cup competition. In no way should it be an equal focus.

The EL is a winnable trophy that will be worth about £20-25M this season and put us in the CL that brings £40M+ next season. It's a massively beneficial competition to win, and is more advantageous to us financially and culturally to win than to finish 3rd or 4th in the PL.

Winning the EL is the best realistically possible thing we can accomplish this season. The League Cup would be a nice foot note, but like 2008 it will ultimately be completely inconsequential.

Inconsequential to who? ENIC probably but not to me and almost every fan of the club.
I'm not in this for the owners of the club to make money and it's about time this club recognise this instead of penny pinching all the time

Inconsequential in general, it's not about finances alone. 2008 is a distant memory, but even in the immediate years after it wasn't an impactful event.

Too often our supporters talk as though winning the LC will be a catalyst to creating a winning mentality and achieving bigger and better things, but the results (not just ours) have shown that's not the truth.

So it will be a wonderful feeling to lift a trophy, yes. But next season, the season after, and beyond - nothing will be impacted or changed by us having lifted a LC.

Having won the EL, however, will greatly impact next season and provide revenue which impacts seasons even further down the line - plus it's a trophy.

It may or may not be an impactful event winning the league cup as you put it but it would be nice to celebrate a bit of success for once wouldn't it.
Winning the EL or even the FA cup would be better but we are 2 rounds from the final in the league cup so that is the most realistic at this point

The league cup would just be nice. But I also don't think the competition should exist anyway, so would struggle to care to an overly significant degree.

The EL/FA cup would be awesome.

Well I'm not saying we don't try to win the LC. In fact I said the opposite above. Point was just that it's less meaningful.

Said from the start of the season an EL + LC double would be my dream season.

Allegri is too far up the dinosaur axis. The other names are just straight unattractive. United is a cesspool but ETH lost all semblance of an identity there, I don't know what was happening.

I think (despite my tag, and general raging about the bloke) we're probably stuck with Ange till the summer. There is nobody gettable.

You'd like to think that if we are facing down a boring, safe PL season then we will be able to put full energy/"Angeball" in to EL ties while resting for league games.

Regarding ETH and United, it wouldn't shock me if it turns out to be 70% a United problem and he's successful in his subsequent jobs. That's why it's got a niggle of intrigue about it to me.

Allegri is another Mourinho/Conte, so it wouldn't surprise me - we oscillate between ambitious unproven appointments and those types these days. Positive if he's a "winner" who has worked with Paratici (who still seems to be lurking in the shadows) in the past. But, like the two mentioned, it'd likely all end in tears.

Agree that there don't seem to be great options about. I've said before my gut says we're going to hire Potter when Ange finally makes a fatal mistake.

I've said before that his ongoing employment during this season, to me, has more to do with how you evaluate our ongoing chances of winning the EL than the league.

We're +400 to win the EL right now and +320 to finish top 4. While that does look to favour the league, we're favourites to win the EL while 4 clubs are ahead of us in the PL odds - Chelsea the nearest at -125, so we're 5th by a considerable margin.

Nothing I've seen from Ange's squad in the past calendar year makes me think we have the capacity for consistency to get top 4 in the league. We probably can't rise to the occasion in the EL either, but in my judgement it's the more likely possibility.

Plus, it's a trophy, and philosophically I'd rather win our way into the CL than finish 4th again. The financial delta between league places isn't high enough in that regard. Financially 7th +EL is more lucrative than 4th+knocked out in the EL, and the former comes with a trophy which we desperately need.

All of that to say, I've said before it's hard to sack him if you think the EL is still a decent shout. But if you lose faith in that, unless the league form dramatically turns around then he should probably be sacked. All of this is why I said the Galatasaray match should be prioritized over Ipswitch, and why I said the Roma and Rangers matches in the busy December calendar will be extremely important to his employment.
I can't really argue against any of this logic except that I just don't really think Ange is gonna get it together in the league. I accept that there's realistically no one to appoint until at least late Dec/January, and even then, the pickings are slim. As others have alluded to it seems unlikely that Potter will want to join us as he apparently turned down Levy before.

I'd hate to see Ange given another year just because he won the league cup and landed us squarely mid-table in the league. I guess in that I am saying that I value a high league placement over any kind of cups or deep cup runs.

We would do well to find to two worse choices than Allegri and ETH. Awful - would prefer Southgate, and I would hate him and boycott games

Ohh the three cheaters at top 3, who would of tought?!
