I can think of two players who were clearly not putting in 100% yesterday (Porro and Maddison) but these guys are of a certain £ value to the club so they'll never get called out the way AP did with Werner and while I contend Werner was atrocious it wasn't because of a lack of effort or professionalism.
Porro is running on fumes. Maddison, I don't know what's going wrong.

But still acting the big bully to single out Werner is still shitty even after sleeping on it.

All fans project & have an inflated idea of where their club should be. That isn't just us though is it?
Yes it's fair to say we overachieved under Poch but we are still a far bigger club than West Ham or Fulham.
Fulham are doing well now but they don't have our history or pedigree.
West Ham fans with a new stadium after a couple of top 8 finishes & conference win thought they were bigger than they are, they are certainly not as big as us.

Fact: We are the 3rd most successful club in London

Even by conservative estimates we are a top 8 club in the Prem league.

You wouldn't say that about West Ham or Fulham.
Top 8 for them is overachieving.

We should be a comfortable top 8 club that does well in the cups & finishes top 4 from time to time.

Obviously as fans we want more but I feel it's more than fair to say that is our 'natural' position.
Horse shit

Werner is on the second-highest wages at the club.

He deserves to get called out and he needs to respond or fuck off.

People need to step babying grown men.
We all knew how bad Werner was, so did Ange - why get him back again? After signing off on him coming in a second time he has a pop at him. We all know Werner's limitations, so does Ange. Son and Johnson were just as bad if not worse last night, yet Ange doesn't take either to task . He hasn't said bugger all to Romero for his efforts in previous matches either. Unfortunately for Ange he hasn't got the players for his Kamikaze system to work and Ange is too dam stubborn to adapt. Cowardly behavior from Ange - needs Sacking along with the bald freak

did you just say defeat to Tamworth (who are currently in a relegation battle in the National league) "could possibly" put him in a "bit" of trouble.

What The Hell Wtf GIF by GIPHY IRL
His fanbois would find a way to claim he isn't the problem still.
Why bring Levy into it?
?
Did you not read what I replied to and why?

Sunday scenario:

Saints and crowd well up for a visit from “soft centre Spurs”.

Spurs players see through the Aussie fraud digging out players to cover his own inability.

Saints win.

Monday he’s gone. Levy lines up Kieran McKenna as the only one who’d touch the job at the minute.

We’ll see.
McKenna is a young up and comer. He's not coming here while he is building his rep.

We will have an easier time recruting established coaches as long as we are in the trophy drought. Guys who already have good reputations that won't be marred by failing to win with us. But who would get elevated another level if they succeed.

Werner is bad, we know this.

But why sign off on him twice?
I don't even think Werner is that awful. He's not worth the wages we're paying that's absolutely true, because by our standards we're paying him an astronomical amount. But as an impact sub he's been pretty handy.

We shouldn't be paying that much for an impact sub though. And Ange shouldn't be picking him out when he's too scared to pick out those performing even worse.

Werner is speedy and that causes problems, and he does put in the odd decent cross. I'm not a fan but I don't think he's the biggest problem.

I don't like it when managers single out players for criticism, it's rarely productive and something cowardly about doing it to a loanee.

Ange was very quick to get all defensive when abused by a fan but doesn't seem to mind going on the front foot himself. If you're going to dish it out...

You misunderstood me I think. What I meant by "it's not that bad" was not that we're not terrible right now. We are. My point was that competent managers can fix this kind of terrible situations even in mid-season. It's not that bad in the sense that it's fixable by a successor. It wasn't meant to be a comparison between our last season and this season. Hope this makes sense.

Like I said, Villa were 16th when Emery took over in Nov 2022. I think they finished 2th behind City for the remainder of the year. The turnaround was that drastic.

Similar with Glasner in Feb 2024. They were 15th when he took over, and they had one of the strongest finishes to the season. Including wins against the likes of Utd, Pool, Villa and Newcastle. Sample size was admittedly smaller compared to Emery's, but the change in style of play and players' attitudes were blatant.

We still nearly have 2/3 of the season ahead, with everything to play for. An actually competent manager can do wonders.
Yeah. A new manager can come in and improve on this. Some times all that's needed for a decent boost is a new gameplan.

It's not a guaranteed fix or even the solution to all problems. But it can improve us well enough

I do think there was a lack of effort watching him. He jogs to close people down and plods back when trying to get back to help Udogie. There’s zero intensity or heart to his game and that why I’m giving him it. Running about with a bit of intensity and life to his game is the bare minimum and he never gave us that. That’s not just him but he was by far the worst last night. Most of the supporters around me last night were getting well pissed off with him because of it.
Giving the ball away and having an off day on the ball is allowed but not a lack of effort and that’s why he came off. He cannot be defended on a lack of effort.

It’s sad that we’ve got to a place where some accept that type of performance. Not for me because these cunts should be proud and want to die for the shirt. It should be a privilege every time they walk out on that pitch.

We deserve better. Much better.

I said before that the only thing that had me keeping Ange here was the lack of a decent alternative, and I said that it was so depressing that we had a manager I was keeping for reasons that were nothing to do with the actual manager themselves.

The other thing that bothers me with the way some of his supporters talk, and when I say supporters, I don’t mean those who are just generally “give him time”, I mean the ones who have joined forums to support solely him, have never watched the league and are only here because the Aussie media has made him out to be a footballing genius and they follow him where ever he goes. With those supporters I hate the idea of him being sacked, and then having to listen to the rhetoric of him being sacked before he won any cups and the whole “HE aLwaYs WinS SecOnD SeaSon” thing.

I can visualise it now, if he loses to United, then we end up truly buggering up the EL, he gets sacked, but at the time he does we’re still in the FA cup, all we’ll ever hear is that he would have won it, and the reasoning will be because he always wins something in the second season.

Not because he ever looked like winning it, not because we were playing like we could win it, not because we ever came close, but just because he’s won crap pots in crap leagues and he and these followers talk about it as if it’s incredible. I don’t think Ange is going to win anything here, even if he had a headstart and a favourable draw.

You don’t win anything with playground football. Yet I now feel like just giving him the cups, and suffering the 12th placed finish just so there can be no excuses. What’s worse about that is I want us to win every game, and I genuinely think that pretty much any manager with even the slightest bit of top level nous and experience would have us finish the season stronger than this. Yet I just can’t be doing with seeing this bloke on my screen giving it “well I always win something mate but they didn’t give me time to… but I would have mate”.

Let him go and be a winner again claiming titles in Kazakhstan, the Himalayan super league, and Nepal or something.
Ange's body of work in the SPL, J-league etc is impressive, and it does show some character to go into these very different environments and be successful.

But as I was explaining to a friend last night I don't just think it's about fit in this case. The Premier League is a different animal and his style, tactics etc have been found wanting at this level; put simply, he's been found out. Alarm bells started ringing when we employed the suicidal high line against Chelsea and he came out with bizarre stuff like "it's who we are" afterwards.

Post-match press conference:
"How did he take it?" - (reporter asking AP how Werner reacted to the criticism from his 'manager')
"Er, I don't really know and er, it's not really of great concern."

W H A T ? ? ?

Postecoglou just gave a post-match press conference where he behaved like some nobody who'd been pulled in off the street, who just happened to catch the game and had no real skin in the game.

Okay, Ange, if that's how it is... You're not too concerned about my club, by your own admission you don't really know how your first team players react to anything you say and you don't give a fuck, so it is with great relish that I shout...

ANGE OUT ! Go on - fuck off, MATE.
