I expect there's more scrutiny on him being able to show "development" from his time here. Not to equate two very different careers, but I think it's what forced Mourinho to take shitter and shitter jobs; the ability to say 'yeah I've learn something from that clusterfuck' instead of putting your head in the sand.
In terms of spurs, if he turned up to Brentford like "Listen mate, in footy we just need to attack more and score more goals. If the players keep fit them we'll smash the league", they'd probably see through it just as much as the attuned section of the fan base did. To balance out the Europa win - although it was good for us and kept his '2nd season' record going, it is a concern if - privately or internally - he didnt breath a sigh of relief and see it as a 'get out of jail free' card for otherwise decimating his CV.
Part of the different skillset that the managers have with teams like Brentford, with much less resources, is to be able to find a way to compete tactically. You can't just turn up with a sledgehammer and just naively say "if we practice we won't need to adapt".
As much as people criticise club ownership and administration, and you could criticise Brentford's ambition, but it is somewhat interesting that they are highly risk-averse in one sense, but appear to be daring in the sense that they've chosen to promote a rookie. The risk-averse part being that they didn't want somehow who didn't understand the club (probably to retain a culture, to avoid a grumpy manager not understanding where the £200m to spend has gone etc).
Part of the jist is probably understanding that the manager doesn't actually make a big difference - it is the coaching team as a group, which has always made me wonder why you get transient groupings (like Poch, Jesus, Miguel, Toni, Poch jr) that haven't marketed that a bit more as a unit (I guess like agents do), rather than "Mr Pochettino and his team"
